Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Box Art Revealed

This February, fans finally received news on the long-rumored upcoming 4th generation Pokemon remakes Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. To the surprise of many, the games were revealed to be in development by Pokemon Home developer ILCA, as opposed to Game Freak, and are to be more faithful remakes of the original Nintendo DS titles, taking on a similar chibi art style.

While the games look about as close to a 1-to-1 remake as they could get, fans have continued to speculate that some new content will be added, from Mega Evolutions to new areas and more. In addition to fan speculation, many supposed leaks and rumors stated that new forms for the flagship Legendary Pokemon Dialga and Palkia would be revealed on the games’ box art, but now that it has been revealed, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Earlier this morning, it was revealed that Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will be releasing later this year on November 19, solidifying the previously announced “late 2021” release date. As an official release date was revealed, the official website for the games began advertising pre-orders, showing off the box art for Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl which feature incredibly detailed 3D renders of Dialga and Palkia.

Previously, Pokemon game box art has revealed new forms for Legendary Pokemon such as Black 2 and White 2’s Black Kyurem and White Kyurem, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire’s Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre, and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon’s Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dark Wings Necrozma. It seems that while Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s box art won’t feature new forms for Dialga and Palkia, the featured 3D renders of the Legendary Pokemon are incredibly detailed, as noticed by popular Spanish Pokemon news account PokeXperto over on Twitter.

The news account posted a video zooming in on the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl box art to show minute details like metal chips in Dialga’s body and the texture of Palkia’s skin. For now, it’s unknown whether this will hold any significance in the upcoming games, but it is certainly an interesting detail nonetheless as these games also mark the first in the series to feature 3D renders on the covers.

This morning, it was also revealed that the upcoming open-world action RPG Pokemon Legends: Arceus will release after Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl on January 28, 2021. While many questions still shroud these upcoming Pokemon games, it looks like fans will certainly have their hands full very soon.
