Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl How to Evolve Mime Jr into Mr Mime

Originally, Mr. Mime was a pure Psychic-type Pokemon that wasn’t part of an evolution line. With the creation of the Sinnoh region, Mr. Mime was given a pre-evolution, Mime Jr. Both of these Pokemon are exclusive to Pokemon Diamond. This has been carried into Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl, in which Mime Jr. and Mr. Mime can only be obtained in Shining Pearl via trading.

Those who purchased Shining Pearl over Brilliant Diamond will find Bonsly and Sudowoodo instead of Mime Jr. and Mr. Mime. To get Mr. Mime, players can either evolve Mime Jr. or they can find Mr. Mime in the wild (Brilliant Diamond only). As of generation 6, the Mr. Mime line (excluding Galarian Mr. Mime and Mr. Rime, from Sword/Shield) are Psychic/Fairy-type. Meaning they have their Fairy-typing in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl.

Catching & Evolving Mime Jr.

Mime Jr. can be caught in the wild on Route 209. This is to the right of Hearthome City, meaning Mime Jr. can be caught fairly early in Brilliant Diamond. Players can also find Mime Jr. on Route 210, which is north of Solaceon Town. In the wild, Mime Jr. has a 25% chance of appearing in the morning with a 5% during the day and at night. On these routes, Mime Jr. will be around levels 16-20. Inflict status ailments on it if a Quick Ball doesn’t work.

To evolve Mime Jr., it needs to level up while knowing the move Mimic. Mime Jr. learns Mimic once it reaches level 32. If the move is accidentally forgotten, players can give a Heart Scale to the Move Tutor in Pastoria City to have Mime Jr. relearn Mimic.

Once evolved, have Mr. Mime reach level 44 and it will learn the Fairy-type move Dazzling Gleam. This is the only damaging Fairy-type move that Mr. Mime can learn. Meaning if trainers intend on having Mr. Mime go toe-to-toe with Dragon-types, they’re going to want to keep this move. Unlike its Galarian counterpart, Mr. Mime can’t learn Ice-type moves (such as Ice Beam), which are also used to counter certain Dragon-types.

Finding Mr. Mime

Trainers who don’t want to keep Mime Jr. can search for Mr. Mime on Route 218 and Route 222. On Route 218, it will be level 29-30, while the Mr. Mimes on Route 222 are levels 41-42.

Remember that in Shining Pearl, Bonsly and Sudowoodo will appear in Mime Jr. and Mr. Mime’s habitats. Trainers looking to catch every Pokemon in Sinnoh will need to trade from someone who has Brilliant Diamond. They can either get a Mime Jr. or Mr. Mime, then level it up or breed it to get Mr. Mime and Mime Jr. respectively.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available now on Nintendo Switch.
