One of the rarest Kanto Pokemon in Pokemon GO is Mew, the first mythical Pokemon to ever appear. While players can’t encounter Mew in the wild normally or fight it in raids, players are still able to get the chance to capture one.

Mew is a pure Psychic-type Pokemon, meaning that it is weak to Bug, Dark, and Ghost-type moves. It also resists damage from Fighting and Psychic-type moves. While it cannot currently be found in its shiny form, its shiny form will be made available after the Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto Event begins.

This line of tasks has players complete a few basic aspects of Pokemon GO before eventually reaching more complicated tasks. What makes this so important however is that players will be awarded an encounter with Mew after completing all of the tasks.



Being special research tasks, players have no time limit when it comes to completing them. The sooner they finish them, however, the sooner they will be able to capture Mew.

Some of the more difficult tasks included within the line of tasks include players needing to catch a Ditto and evolve a Magikarp. Luckily, players are given plenty of other rewards to collect while completing tasks that will help players with catching Pokemon and participate in raids.

Here’s a look at all of the tasks players will need to get done to capture Mew:

Stage 1

  • Spin 10 Pokestops.
  • Catch 5 Pokemon.
  • Transfer 5 Pokemon.

Players that complete these relatively easy tasks are rewarded with 1500 EXP, one incubator, three lures, and 10 Great Balls.

Stage 2

  • Achieve 10 Great Throws.
  • Hatch three eggs.
  • Gain two candies while walking with buddy.

Players that complete this set of quests will receive 3000 EXP, 2000 stardust, 20 Great Balls, and three incense.


Stage 3

  • Obtain Level 15.
  • Participate in two Raid Battles.
  • Battle in two Gyms.

Getting this one done will give players 4500 EXP, two star pieces, one Quick TM, and one Charge TM.

Stage 4

  • Evolve 20 Pokemon.
  • Earn a Silver Kanto Medal.
  • Gain three candies while walking with buddy.

Players that complete these tasks will obtain 6000 EXP, 4000 Stardust, 20 Great Balls, and three Lures.

Stage 5

  • Perform 20 Great Throws.
  • Catch 10 Ghost-Type Pokemon.
  • Find and catch a Ditto.

Knocking off these tasks will reward players with 7500 EXP, 15 Revives, one Lucky Egg, and one Premium Raid Pass.

Stage 6

  • Obtain Level 25.
  • Participate in 10 Raid Battles.
  • Find, catch, and evolve a Magikarp.

This time-consuming set will reward players with 9000 EXP, 6000 Stardust, five Rare Candy, and three Incense.

Stage 7

  • Catch 50 Pokemon while using a Berry.
  • Earn a Kanto Gold Medal.
  • Perform one Excellent Curved Throw.

Players that get past this leg of the lengthy journey will receive 10,500 EXP, 8000 Stardust, 20 Ultra Balls, and a Mythical Pokemon Encounter.

Stage 8

  • Capture Mythical Pokemon Mew

Players that can capture Mew will obtain the Pokemon itself, while also being rewarded with a whopping 40,000 EXP, 10,000 Stardust, 20 Mew Candy, and one Super Incubator.

Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto

On Saturday, February 20th, Pokemon GO players will be able to participate in the Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto Event. This event will introduce the rest of the shiny Pokemon from the Kanto region and offer players many valuable encounters and rewards for participating.

The majority of the event’s festivities and tasks will be locked behind a ticketed paywall that players can purchase in the in-game Pokemon GO store. One of these perks from buying a ticket includes a special research task line that is meant to be completed over a long series of time. This means that players do not have to complete it all in one day like many of the other parts of the event.

As players can probably guess, the end of this special research task line will give players an encounter with Mew. This Mew however is special due to it being a shiny Mew, making it far rarer than a normal Mew obtained by any other means.
