Pokemon has arguably had the biggest of its 25 years in 2021. New Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Unite launched, Pokemon cards had scalpers hunting for Happy Meals, and Katy Perry sang about Pikachu. The best might still be yet to come, though. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl launch next week, and a boatload of new details about what to expect from the remakes just landed on Nintendo’s website.

While the new trailer has revealed a lot to be excited about, the fine print on the site has also explained what won’t be coming to the games, at least not when they launch on November 19. Perhaps most notably link trades and link battles. The two features will be added to Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl via a future update. The exact dates on when those updates will roll out have not been revealed.

It has also been revealed that certain legendary Pokemon will only be available on a particular game. Ho-Oh, Raikou, Entei, and Suicune will be exclusive to Brilliant Diamond, while Lugia, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres can only be caught on Shining Pearl. The lack of ability to link trade at launch means some speedy trainers might be waiting a while to complete their ‘Dex. Well, perhaps even some of the slower trainers too since no date for the addition of link trades has been given.

As well as no link trades and no link battles, the games’ Union Room will be limited to just two players at launch. Again, the Nintendo listing for the games simply says this will be upgraded via a future update. Those future updates will also add greeting and Capsule Decoration functions.

It’s not all bad news about Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, of course. The latest update about the state of the game at launch also reminds players that buying a copy of either game early will get you a free Manaphy egg, as well as instructions on how to claim it. Plus, if you order the games through the Nintendo store in the UK, you will be entered into a contest to win a collection of diecast Pokeball replicas.
