Imane “Pokimane” Anys made a classic mistake by Google Image searching while live on Twitch. She was baited by viewers into searching for the word “spunk,” as she was led to believe it was the name of a person that she looked like. Consequently, she and her audience were met with a slew of NSFW images – most notably displaying a sex toy for all of her viewers to see. Pokimane clearly thought nothing of the word considering the word’s original innocent meaning, but unfortunately for the popular Canadian-Moroccan streamer, it also has some NSFW connotations.

As a veteran streamer, one would think that Pokimane would have known better than to trust the internet, but alas, she stepped on a landmine this time around. Chat exploded with reactions to the hilarity, with many spamming “f” to pay respects and others calling for her to be banned.

Reacting to the shocking image results, she quickly ended stream and deleted the VOD, but not before someone archived the clip and posted it on Reddit’s ever-popular “LivestreamFail” subreddit. When she returned to the stream, she joking quipped, “I hope you enjoyed your solid commercial break. That was a really, really good commercial break” – acting as if nothing bad happened.

Many argue that nothing will happen to Pokimane due to Twitch’s alleged bias towards popular female streamers– and they’re probably right. First of all, Pokimane actually did handle things well by not drawing attention to the mishap, closing the tab and deleting the evidence as quickly as possible. Secondly, she is indeed one of Twitch’s “poster-child” streamers, so even if she does get banned it will likely be for just a short while.

Redditors also seem to agree that lightly breaking Twitch’s TOS and ending up on Reddit is simply a good thing overall; If a streamer is going to get unbanned in a few days – all while receiving plenty of free publicity – is it not just a vacation with essentially no consequences?

With Pokimane, the mishap definitely seemed like a natural mistake. Considering the insecurity of streaming as full-time career, however, she should certainly consider herself lucky if she gets away with the slip up for free. For many other streamers, luck hasn’t quite been on their side– that is, unless that luck really is just Twitch’s bias.
