Rhyhorn and Rhydon are both Rock/Ground-type Pokemon that have been around since the first generation of the Pokemon games with Red/Blue/Yellow. However, there’s been a third addition to the evolution line, which added Rhyperior into the mix. It’s also a Rock/Ground-type, and it has exceptionally high base Attack and Defense, but lacks in Special Attack and Special Defense. Still, Rhyperior can be a strong Pokemon to have on any team if used correctly. To get Rhyperior in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players will need to evolve Rhydon, and that involves a special item and a trading buddy.

How to Evolve Rhydon into Rhyperior

For Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players looking to evolve Rhydon into Rhyperior, an evolutionary Held Item called a Protector will be needed. There’s only one Protector available in the Sinnoh region, and players can find it on Route 228, north of the Resort Area (more details below). Once players obtain the Protector, they can give it to a Rhydon to hang on to, and then Rhydon will need to be traded for it to evolve into Rhyperior. The only way for players to trade in BDSP is to connect online and go to the Pokemon Center’s battle/trading rooms. The Rhyperior will need to be traded back once it evolves, so players need to trade with someone they can trust.

Protector Location

As mentioned previously, the item can be found on Route 228, an area with a relentless sandstorm. The quickest way to reach 228 is by heading north from the Pokemon Center at the Resort Area. Starting from there, players can follow these steps to find the Protector item:

  • Head north to Route 229
  • Pass the pair of Ace Trainers facing each other and go into the large patch of grass. Head towards the northwestern path.
  • Players will reach Route 228. Go north until players see a tiny lake in front of a small home.
  • Go past the home and then slide down the cliff into a lower area that has a single rock. Head left and then go up the cliff using the bike.
  • Players will see the Route exit, but instead of leaving, just head to the right, slide down the cliff and collect the Poke Ball item to find a Protector.

Where to Catch Rhydon (and Rhyhorn) in Pokemon BDSP

Rhydon can evolve from Rhyhorn at level 42, but it can also be found in the wild in a few different locations. Players can look for Rhydon at Route 227, Route 228, Stark Mountain, and in the Grand Underground. There are many biomes in the Grand Underground, but players should be looking for these if they want a Rhydon: Spacious Cave, Rocky Cave, Sandsear Cave, and Big Bluff Cavern.

As for Rhyhorn’s locations, Pokemon players can search at these locations: Route 227, Stark Mountain, and the Grand Underground (Sunlit Cavern, Typhlo Cavern, Spacious Cave, Rocky Cave, Sandsear Cave, and Big Bluff Cavern).
