Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl How to Evolve Togetic into Togekiss

Togekiss is a Fairy/Flying-type Pokemon in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl, and there are a couple of different ways that players can go about obtaining it. One option is to evolve a Togetic into Togekiss, though some fans may be uncertain about exactly how that is done. For those fans that would like to try to evolve their Togetic in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl, full details on the process can be found in this guide.

Updated on February 17, 2022 by Renri Seong: With Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl taking place in Generation 8, Pokemon like the Togepi-line retain their Fairy-typing from Pokemon X/Y. In the original Diamond/Pearl, Fairy-type didn’t exist, and players couldn’t get Togepi until the postgame. While players still can’t catch Togepi or its evolution Togetic in the Wild in BDSP, they can find it roaming in the Grand Underground instead. Evolving Togetic into Togekiss is a little different from evolving Togepi into Togetic. The following guide has been updated to include where to catch Togepi and more information about Togekiss.

Players can find Togepi in the Grand Underground, which becomes available when players first visit Eterna City. Togepi will appear in three different Hideaways: Fountainspring Cave, Dazzling Cave, and Stargleam Cavern. The earliest hideaway players will be able to visit is the Fountainspring Cave. Togepi is a rare spawn here, so players may have to enter and exit the hideaway until it appears.

The first step toward evolving a Togetic is to obtain a Shiny Stone, and there are several places where this item can be found. Here are details on the locations of two Shiny Stones in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and players that already have one in their inventories should feel free to skip ahead to the next section:

Iron Island Shiny Stone

Players can reach Iron Island by speaking with the sailor on the dock in Pokemon BDSP’s Canalave City, and they should enter the cave and descend the stairs on the right upon arrival. Fans must now work their way through a maze-like room, which ultimately leads to a lift that players should use before descending a staircase on the right.

Players will now find themselves in yet another labyrinthian room, and they should make their way to the lift on its southside and exit through the doorway on the left. This action will put fans in a room with one final lift in it, and the Shiny Stone is on the ground at the top.

Route 228 Shiny Stone

Players that have reached Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s post-game can get their hands on one more Shiny Stone by visiting Route 228. Here, fans should make their way to the second sandfall to the north and use their bikes to climb it. Players should then cross the narrow beam to reach a platform that is home to the Shiny Stone.

Grand Underground

If players need more than two Shiny Stones, they’ll have to search in the Grand Underground. Like the other evolutionary stones, Shiny Stones aren’t guaranteed when mining. It could take hours before players find one, or they could get lucky and find one in the first wall they dig into.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl: How to Use Shiny Stone

Once a player has obtained a Shiny Stone, they are ready to proceed with evolving their Togetic into Togekiss. This is done simply by selecting the Shiny Stone from the “Other Items Pocket” tab inside of the Bag and choosing “use this item.” From there, all a Pokemon BDSP player needs to do is select the Togetic that they want to evolve and watch as it immediately transforms into its final form.

More Information About Togekiss

Even before the debut of the Fairy-type in Pokemon, Togekiss was a useful Pokemon both in and out of competitive battling. Changing Togekiss’ Normal-type to Fairy-type has given it a one-up against Dragon-types at the cost of different weaknesses and losing its immunity to Ghost-type Pokemon.

Togekiss has a base stat total of 545, which is very high for a non-pseudo legendary Pokemon. It has great Special Attack and Special Defense with meager Attack and average Speed and Defense. Because of its low base HP, Togekiss isn’t as bulky as Pokemon like Wailord or Lapras. However, having a Nature that doesn’t decrease its Special Defense growth means it should be able to avoid being 1HKO for the most part.

The best Nature for Togekiss is Timid (+Spd, -Attk), but if players want to capitalize on its Special Attack or Special Defense, Modest (+Sp. Attk, -Attk) or Calm (+Sp. Def, -Attk) works instead. The reason why players may want a Timid Nature is because Togekiss’ base Speed isn’t that great. Having Speed growth will help it move quicker in battle and possibly move before its opponent.

As a Fairy/Flying-type Pokemon, Togekiss has the following type effectiveness:

Unfortunately, losing its Normal-typing means Togekiss is no longer immune to Ghost-type. Instead, it gains immunity to Dragon-type, so it’s not too bad of a trade-off for Togekiss. Its new Fairy-typing makes it weak to Steel and Poison-type moves, which it could otherwise shake off back in Generations 2-5.

When using Togekiss, go to the Move Reminder and have it remember Aura Sphere. This is a Fighting-type move that is super-effective against Steel-type Pokemon. Togekiss has more Special moves than Physical, so teach it moves that grant it STAB and coverage.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available now on the Switch.
