Longtime fans of the Pokemon series may recognize Nosepass as Roxanne’s main Pokemon from the Hoenn region. When it first debuted, Nosepass was only a Rock-type that could not evolve. Thanks to Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Nosepass was given a second and final evolution in Probopass. To evolve this Pokemon, trainers need to level it up near a special magnetic field.

Those familiar with the originals may have an idea of where to evolve Nosepass in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Once Nosepass evolves into Probopass, it gains the Steel-typing, making it suitable against Fairy-Type or Ice-Type Pokemon. To get the Compass Pokemon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, there are a few things that need completing.

Nosepass can’t be found in the wild until players have received the National Dex from Professor Rowan. Defeat the Elite Four and Champion, and make sure all Pokemon in the Sinnoh Dex have been seen. With these requirements completed, Professor Rowan should give the player the National Dex and a PokeRadar.

Something else that will occur are Swarm Pokemon. Swarms are when single Pokemon species appear randomly on specific routes for the day. Players can check which Pokemon are swarming in by interacting with a TV or going to Sandgem Town and speaking to Lucas/Dawn’s sister. Nosepass is a Swarm Pokemon, and it will only appear on Route 206 at level 14. Unfortunately, Swarm Pokemon are randomized, so there’s no telling when a Nosepass Swarm will occur.

Once Nosepass is caught, the next step is evolving it. Go to Mt. Coronet from Route 207/208 or Route 211 and level it up once so it will evolve into Probopass. Keep in mind that Nosepass will only be level 14, so it’s better to have it battle the weaker Pokemon in Mt. Coronet. Avoid entering Mt. Coronet from higher leveled areas such as Route 216. Trainers also have the option of feeding Nosepass a Rare Candy to evolve it instead.

More About Probopass

Probopass and its pre-evolution Pokemon aren’t really known for their Attack or Special Attack. However, they have incredible Defense and Special Defense, meaning Probopass’ opponents will be spending a lot of time chipping away at its health.

Since its Attack and Speed are quite poor, Probopass doesn’t need a Nature that will increase its Attack/Speed growth. Its main method of attacking will be through Special Moves, meaning a Modest Nature (+Sp. Attk, -Attk) will give Probopass the push it needs. However, it’s best to avoid Natures that take away from its Defense and Special Defense as well, since these are Probopass’ best assets.

Other good Natures for Probopass to have are:

  • Bold: +Defense, -Attack
  • Calm: +Sp. Defense, -Attack

As far as moves are concerned, it’s almost required for Probopass to have the move Flash Cannon since it can take down bulky Ice and Fairy-type Pokemon. Probopass also has access to some Electric-type moves such as Volt Switch and Thunderbolt. Keep in mind that Probopass will not gain STAB from these moves due to its Typing. However, having an Electric-type move can give it coverage against some Water-types, which is one of Probopass’ weaknesses.
