The second wave of Free Weekly Challenges has arrived in Pokemon GO and a Team GO Rocket invasion came along for the ride. This time around the group of troublemakers are hitching rides on hot air balloons instead of taking over Pokestops, so players need to look to the skies to find some shadow Pokemon who might need to be saved. In addition to the usual grunts and bosses, PoGO trainers can also run into the iconic Jessie and James for the very first time in the mobile AR game.
Players have likely already faced off against Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra during prior Team Rocket Invasions, but now is a perfect time for a rematch since all three bosses have new rosters of Pokemon. Pokemon GO trainers should definitely take a bit of time before the match to study the new opponents and form the perfect team for the fight.
Similar to last time around, when facing off against Cliff players have a pretty interesting mix of Pokemon to battle. Here’s a list of all the possible Pokemon that Cliff might throw out during the fight:
Cliff’s Roster
First Pokemon: Pinsir or Grimer
Second Pokemon: Machamp / Omastar / Electivire
Third Pokemon: Tyranitar / Swampert / Torterra
Recommended Counters
Because there are so many different Pokemon that Cliff can throw out at players, keep in mind that taking a lose on the first go and gaining some information is something players might have to do. Building the perfect counter roster is much easier once players know at least the first two Pokemon that they’ll be facing off against. With that in mind, here are the recommended counters for each of the different scenarios that might play out. Be sure to adjust your strategy accordingly, based on what Pokemon Ciff is bringing to the battlefield against your lineup.

As trainers continue working through all of these amazing events, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
