Pokemon GO Datamine Reveals New Move Files

Every few months (or weeks when we’re lucky) a new datamine gives Pokemon GO players a feast of code to scour for hints about what might be arriving to the game in an upcoming patch. The latest Pokemon GO datamine seems to be mostly full of bug fixes (which is a good thing!), but there was one exciting bit of code that was almost overlooked.

Although no major new features seem to be buried in the 0.93.3 APK teardown, there was an interesting file hiding in the sound assets. The new file is the sound for Weather Ball, Castform’s signature move! The Gen-3 move has not been implemented into the game yet, but the inclusion of the sound file means that there must be plans to add it at some point in the future.

Interested parties can give the new attack sound a listen right here and check out the code below…

Although it is exciting to see the sound file show up in the assets, don’t expect the actual move to arrive in a hurry. In the past, these sound files have sometimes been added months ahead of time, so there’s no guarantee that the move will be arriving shortly.

The prospect of Castform getting a new move does seem to make him an interesting possibility for an upcoming Community Day event. The creature isn’t quite powerful enough to really be as valuable for the event as some of our top Community Day picks, but its multiple forms and a special move could make him a serious contender.

Once the move is officially added to the game, we’ll post an update and an analysis of its strengths and weaknesses.

Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
