Pokémon GO is getting spooky again for Halloween with various bonuses and features that will be available throughout the final week of October. Ghost-type Pokémon will appear more often in the wild, but other Pokémon types will also don costumes. Plus, Niantic will have new avatar items and more for players to discover and collect.

The Halloween event takes place Friday, Oct. 23 until Tuesday, Nov. 3. Here’s everything in the Pokémon GO Halloween event update.

Starting Oct. 23, ghost-type Pokémon will appear more often in the wild. They will also be featured in raids and will hatch more frequently from eggs. This year, Gengar and Sableye will be wearing costumes, with costumed Gengar in raids and costumed Sableye in the wild. Pokémon GO players will also have the chance to hatch these from an egg.

Galarian Yamask will appear in Pokémon GO for the first time. Players can acquire it by completing the new Halloween 2020 Special Research, “A Spooky Message Unmasked,” to help Professor Willow uncover the mysteries surrounding this Pokémon. This marks a change for the Halloween Special Research, which has featured Spiritomb for the last two years. Spiritomb can still be encountered by completing certain Field Research tasks and players may even encounter a Shiny Spiritomb.

Finally, Darkrai will be featured in five-star raids.

Pokémon GO Halloween 2020 Bonuses

Trainers who completed the Mega Buddy Challenge Timed Research will be able to participate in exclusive Timed Research that rewards Gengar Mega Energy. Mega Gengar will also be available in Mega Raids.

Additionally, players can dress up for Halloween with new avatar items in the Style Shop, including a Pikachu Mask, Gengar Onesie, Sableye Goggles, Sableye Mask or Banette Mask. There’s a new spooky pose, as well, and players can acquire Creepy Crate, Boo Bundle and Pumpkin Pack boxes in the shop.

Snapshots will reveal spooky surprises and Pokémon GO players will get double the Transfer and Catch Candy throughout the Halloween event. Players can also try out the new Spooky Pose.

Pokémon GO Halloween 2020 Events

The Pokémon GO Halloween update will also feature special events for players to participate in. On Halloween itself, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. local time, Alolan Marowak will appear more often in raids.

In the week leading up to Halloween and extending through Nov. 3, the Halloween Cup will be live in the GO Battle League. In this format, only Poison-, Bug-, Ghost-, Dark- and Fairy-type Pokémon with 1500 CP or less will be allowed to participate. Players can also earn encounters with costumed Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle.
