Pokemon GO January 2019 Community Day to Feature Totodile

Although many fans are likely still reeling from everything that occurred on the Pokemon GO December Community Day, many are also looking forward to the fan-favorite event next month. December Community Day will be hard to follow for sure, as it featured every Pokemon that headlined the event for the whole year of 2018. Still, next month is kickstarting a new list of featured Pokemon, so many are anxiously waiting on Niantic to confirm what’s coming.

While there should be an announcement relatively soon, the Silph Road and Pokemon GO players as a whole have been discussing what Pokemon will or should feature for January 2019. Thanks to a thus-far proven and established pattern, though, many believe that it will be the water-type gen 2 starter Totodile. Of all the contenders, this makes the most sense.

Since Community Day events began, a starter has featured every other month: Pikachu in January 2018, Bulbasaur in March, Charmander in May, Squirtle in July, Chikorita in September, and Cyndaquil in November. Typically, the in-between months feature either a random Pokemon or a rare Pokemon, but the key detail is that this pattern sets up Totodile to feature in January 2019.

Because the gen 1 starters rotated in a grass-fire-water pattern and gen 2 has followed this with grass and fire, Totodile is the only contender that makes sense. Of course, many may presume that Niantic wants to shake it up somewhat, but it seems likely that the Pokemon GO developer would see fit to finish this pattern up first. If this pattern continues into next year, that means that Treecko, the gen 3 Grass starter, would headline March 2019’s event.

February 2019 is the wild card in the scenario, and there is no telling what Niantic has up its sleeves. It could come from the pool of fan-favorite picks like Bagon, Ralts, Slakoth, or Trapinch, but it could also easily be something different entirely. While that remains to be seen, it seems to safe to say players can expect to see Totodile and perhaps Hydro Cannon Feraligatr next month.

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions for Android and iOS devices.
