Pokémon Go Mega Blastoise Guide — Best Counters Moveset And More

Mega Blastoise is tough, but with these tips, you can bring this heavily-armed turtle down.

Mega Evolution has been in Pokémon GO for about a month now and players are eagerly harvesting their favorite Pokemon’s Mega Energy. That means beating Mega Raids of the appropriate type, and if Blastoise is your favorite ‘Mon, that means taking down a Mega Blastoise in a Raid Battle at least four times.

Mega Blastoise is no pushover, but with the right strategy, you just might stand a chance. Read on to discover which Pokémon are best to bring against Mega Blastoise and how to use them effectively.

Pokémon Go Blastoise — Analysis

Mega Blastoise is a pure Water-type Pokémon, meaning it’s strong against Rock, Ground, and Fire-types, but weak against Grass and Electric Types. Mega Blastoise also hits hard and has a lot of HP, so don’t expect this to be an easy fight even with type advantages.

Making matters worse, Mega Blastoise can also have a wide variety of moves at its disposal. Water Gun and Bite are possible Fast Moves, while Charge Moves can include Flash Cannon, Ice Beam, Hydro Pump, and Skull Bash. Ice Beam can be particularly brutal against Grass-type Pokémon, and Hydro Pump can still one-hit KO a Pokémon even if it doesn’t have a type disadvantage against it.

Keep an eye on what Pokémon types the raid lobby recommends before entering a fight with Mega Blastoise. If it recommends Electric but not Grass, that means Blastoise will likely have Ice Beam as its Charge Move. If that’s the case, don’t bring any of the recommended Grass-type counters below.

Rainy weather will boost both Water and Electric-type moves, so keep in mind that rain is a double-edged sword here. Sunny or clear weather will boost Grass-type moves and provide a more clear advantage over Mega Blastoise.

Pokémon Go Blastoise — Best Counters

Mega Venusaur is probably your best bet against Mega Blastoise. If you don’t have one yet, then strong Electric and Grass-types are good choices. Zekrom, Raiko, Zapdos, Roserade, Rangrowth, Magnezone, Electivire, regular Venusaur, Luxray, Sceptile, and Exeggutor will serve you well against Mega Blastoise, as will Mewtwo when it has an Electric-type Charge Move Thunderbolt.

Jolteon would normally be a good choice, but Mega Blastoise is simply too tough for Jolteon to burst down before it takes a Hydro Pump to the face. Keep that in mind if you sub-out for other Electric-type ‘Mons that might not have the greatest bulk.
