How to use a Remote Raid Pass in Pokémon Go

If you want to raid remotely in Pokémon Go, you must first purchase a Remote Raid Pass from the in-game store.

With pass in hand, you can join a raids remotely by either using the Nearby tab or by selecting a gym that contains a raid on the overworld map.

Using the Nearby tab is both the easier and more effective option, because it will allow you to see a wider selection of raids.

After you’ve selected which raid you wish to join, you’ll find yourself looking at the familiar raid screen. The only difference, however, is that the regular button for joining a raid has been replaced with a pink one, which will allow you to join in exchange for a Remote Raid Pass.

If you do decide to join the raid, then selecting your team, battling the raid boss and enjoying your rewards (if you win that is…) will all occur just like how they would if you were raiding normally.

Up to 10 players can join a raid remotely and, if this limit is reached, any players that try to join remotely afterwards will be placed in a new lobby. This limit will eventually decrease to five remote raiding players, but, at the moment, we don’t know this change will occur.

Remote Raids and Remote Raid Passes in Pokémon Go explained

Remote Raids allow you to use a Remote Raid Pass to join a raids in Pokémon Go from the comfort of your own home; no longer do you have to stand in the rain to catch that Legendary Pokémon or risk being attacked by birds. With a few limitations, Remote Raiding functions exactly the same as raiding does when you’re at the physical location of the gym.

Viewing raids remotely also allows you to collect your free Raid Pass for that day, which is incredibly useful if you’re down a pass, but don’t have the time to collect it.

You also don’t have to worry about losing out on either raid related field research tasks or the achievement medals, because Remote Raids will still be counted for these.

At launch, if you’re battling in a raid using a Remote Raid Pass, your Pokémon will be just as powerful as those being used by the players battling at the physical location of the raid. This will, however, eventually be used as this new feature is refined.

Niantic is planning a number of new features to Remote Raiding at a later date, including the ability to invite your friends to a raid no matter their location.

Limitations of Remote Raiding in Pokémon Go explained

Unlike regular raids in Pokémon Go, there are a number of limitations attached to Remote Raiding.

Firstly, if you want to join a raid remote, then you will need a Remote Raid Pass. You can only carry three Remote Raid Passes at one time, so try to use them quickly.

The second limitation is that only a certain number of players can join a raid using a Remote Raid pass. This decision is presumably to allow a degree of fairness between those who are still using the regular raiding system.

Currently 10 players can join a raid remotely, but this number will be eventually decreased to five.

This doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t compete in this specific raid if the limitation has been reached. Instead, you’ll simply be placed in a new lobby and will have to either invite or wait for more players to join you.

The third and final limitation is one that will be introduced some time after the launch of Remote Raiding, which is the power reduction of Pokémon being used in Remote Raids.

This means that, eventually, the Pokémon being used by Remote Raid Pass players will cause less damage compared to the players who are battling at the location of the raid.

April 2022 introduces the Silent Schemes event, which requires learning new Leader counters and Giovanni counters. Elsewhere, we’ve recently seen new Ditto disguises as part of the Season of Alola, which also introduced An Akala Adventure and more Gen 7 Pokémon including Fomantis and Tapu Lele. Elsewhere, off the back of the Go Tour Johto event is Masterwork Research Apex to complete.

How to purchase a Remote Raid pass in Pokémon Go

If you want to take part in a Remote Raid in Pokémon Go, then you must first purchase a Remote Raid pass.

You’ll be able to find these passes in the in-game store, which is accessible via the main menu. Once there, you’ll be able to purchase Remote Raid Passes using PokéCoin.

Currently, Remote Raid Passes are available at a discounted price of 100 PokéCoins. You can also purchase three Remote Raid passes for 250 PokéCoins.

There is also be a special one-off bundle celebrating the launch of Remote Raiding, which includes three Remote Raid Passes and only costs one PokéCoin.
