With Attack Form Deoxys now live on Pokemon GO, many players are certain to be working hard for the EX Raid Passes required to battle the new Mythical Pokemon. For some trainers, this work appears to have paid off, as Niantic has just issued passes for 2019’s first EX Raids.

According to reports on The Sliph Road Subreddit, players began to receive a new round of EX Raid Passes yesterday, and these invites grant them access to EX Raids scheduled for January 4th and 5th, 2019. As expected, these EX Raids will feature Attack Form Deoxy, Pokemon GO’s second EX Raid Boss.

While some players have acquiring EX Raid Passes down to a science, others may be wondering how to get the opportunity to join these invite-only Raids and capture the new Pokemon. Fortunately, the community has uncovered the best ways to improve a player’s chances at receiving an EX Raid Pass.

To start, players will need to locate their local EX Raid-eligible Gyms. Niantic has recently made this a straightforward task, as these Gyms are now designated on-screen as “EX RAID GYMS” when a player is visiting one.

Once identified, players should work to obtain Gold Gym Badges at these locations. This can be done by completing activities at these Gyms, including battling, defending, and giving a defending Pokemon a treat.

Additionally, players will need to coordinate with other trainers to be certain that many players are completing Raids at these EX Raid-eligible Gyms. Reports suggest that if at least 20 unique players participate in Raids at these locations within a seven day period, all participants are likely to receive an EX Raid Pass for that Gym.

To note, fulfilling this criteria does not guarantee an EX Raid Pass, and one reason an eligible player may not receive an invite is due to something that the community calls “clock blocking.” Specifically, “clock blocking” refers to a phenomenon where EX Raid Passes are issued while a Raid is already active at an EX Raid-eligible Gym. This causes the active Gym to be passed over, which means that players that would receive an EX Raid Pass for that location will not.

For those that will be participating in next week’s EX Raids, they should be certain to come prepared with the appropriate counters for the Psychic-type Attack Form Deoxys. Until the exclusive Raid occurs, Pokemon GO has a bevy of holiday offerings to keep trainers occupied.

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
