Pokemon GO’s latest update makes a very helpful tweak to the Field Research system, that should help players keep better track of which quests they’ve already completed.

Pokemon GO players have now been completing Field and Special Research for over two weeks and the system seems to be a major success. The new quests offer chances for rural players to earn encounters that may usually be unavailable to them and gives the whole community a rewarding carrot on a stick to draw them into the game on a daily basis. Although the system doesn’t have any major flaws, that doesn’t mean there isn’t still room for some improvement.
One of the few complaints that Pokemon GO players have tossed out so far is that there isn’t a way to keep track of where each Field Research quest came from or if they’ve already completed the quest being offered by a particular Pokestop. In a surprising turn of events, Niantic seems to already be rolling out a solution to the second problem.
One Reddit user reported that they received an update to version 0.99.2 early this morning, which included a small, but helpful, update to the Field Research system. Take a look at the upper righthand corner of the screenshot to spot the tweak…
The small Field Research system and checkmark signify that the quest currently offered by that stop has already been collected and completed. This is a pretty minor change, but for very active players who often frequent the same stops many times a day, it will definitely be helpful.
The player who has already received the update also explained a second change to the Nearby feature…
“Nearby Pokemon that are not registered to the dex are prioritized in nearby.”
This means that if a Gyarados has spawned and the player hasn’t caught or evolved one yet, it will show up higher in the Nearby list than other pokemon that are closer to the player.
Despite a rocky start with server errors, bugs, and missing features; Niantic has brought Pokemon GO a long way in the past two years and the game is still growing. Although its popularity may never return to the viral craze of that first summer, the core community of players seems to be hooked for the long haul.
