Ahead of a major update for Pokemon GO next week, developer Niantic adds a few quality of life improvements that are sure to make players’ lives easier.

Alongside the reveal that Pokémon GO will be adding new Gen 2 Pokémon to the fray in an update next week, developer Niantic also released a small patch to the game earlier today. The update doesn’t have much in the way of “major changes,” but one tiny improvement should do a lot to cut down on the time power users spend in menus.

With the launch of Pokémon GO Update 1.19.1 or (0.49.1 on Android), players will be able to transfer Pokémon to Professor Willow in bulk. No longer will players have to individually select and then confirm the transfer of Pokémon, but instead they will be able to get rid of all of them in one fell swoop. All Pokémon GO players need to do is press and hold on a Pokémon to activate the batch transfer option.

Transferring Pokémon, for those that might not know, is a method whereby players can trade their unwanted Pokémon in exchange for a piece of candy. So, for example, if they have a surplus of Ekans, the player can transfer one or several Ekans they don’t want and get Ekans candy in return. And if they get enough candy, they can eventually use them to buff up their highest CP Ekans.

In addition to the batch transfer option, today’s Pokémon GO update also adds a few menu changes including Pokémon type icons for Gyms, a total candy count for buddy Pokémon, and a total kilometer count for all Pokémon that are or have at one time been a player’s buddy Pokémon.

For full patch notes for the Pokémon GO update see below:

  • Trainers will be able to transfer multiple Pokémon at a time to Professor Willow. To use this function, press and hold on a Pokémon.
  • Pokémon type icons have been added to the Gym battle approach and Gym battle screen.
  • The total Candy count for your Buddy Pokémon has been added to the buddy information screen.
  • The total kilometers a buddy has walked has been added to the information screen of each Pokémon that has ever been your buddy.
  • Minor text fixes.

Overall, the latest Pokémon GO update features one very important quality of life changes and a few minor ones as well. The ability to transfer Pokémon in large quantities is sure to make menu management a lot easier, and it will have players back hunting new Pokémon much faster than before. In fact, it’s surprising that it took Niantic this long to implement the feature, because it seemed like such a simple fix. Nevertheless, that is the nature of hugely popular mobile games like Pokémon GO – fixes take much longer because the risks in breaking things is much higher.

Thankfully, those who might think the Pokémon GO update doesn’t have a lot of exciting additions have a second update to look forward to. On December 12th, reportedly in connection with Starbucks, Pokémon GO is adding new Pokémon to the mix from the Gen 2 collection. Look for more on that update in the future
