Pokemon GO Update Fixes GO Battle League Exploit

Pokemon GO may remain an incredibly popular title, but it continues to be plagued with bugs that draw plenty of ire from its player-base. For instance, the game’s Gym Battles still suffer from some nasty bugs and glitches. When it’s not those, there are players who have managed to find exploits that they can take advantage of. Fortunately, one such, albeit minor, exploit has been removed from the game fairly recently.

Much like the mainline games, Pokemon GO players can take part in online Trainer battles against each other, whether it be for fun or for competition in the GO Battle League. However, since players see who they’re facing in the matchmaking screen, it was possible for them to quit the match without any sort of penalty before it even started, provided they did it quickly enough and then restarted the game.

As of May 11th, however, Niantic has nullified this Pokemon GO exploit. Now, if a player quits the match, it will be counted as a loss against them, unless they reopen the game and complete the match. Basically, players must commit to any online match they take part in. And if they still decide to quit it, the opposing player gets a free win.

Funnily enough, while it’s good that the issue has been fixed, there are those within the Pokemon GO community who weren’t aware this was a problem to begin with. In a Reddit thread covering the update, several players admit that they didn’t know about the issue until it was fixed or didn’t care. One user points out that this really only applies to those invested in Pokemon GO’s PvP, which is only a small part of a much wider, mostly casual audience.

However, some users aren’t entirely thrilled with the update because the penalty also applies should the game simply crash, which is a problem players can’t really control. Some players even state that they suffer multiple crashes quite regularly, which means they’re being given losses that arguably weren’t deserved. Others complain that online matches suffer from severe lag or are near impossible to find to begin with.

At the moment, most players likely aren’t concerned with online play anyway and are instead preparing for the next major event taking place next week. Once the current Luminous Legends X event wraps up, it will almost immediately be followed by Luminous Legends Y, which will introduce Yveltal to the game.

Pokemon GO is available for Android and iOS.
