Pokémon GO What Are Strange Scraps

Images of something Niantic has dubbed “Strange Scraps” have been showing up in Pokémon GO, but no one seems to know exactly what they mean.

This month might well be the busiest in Pokémon GO’s history. Between GO Fest 2020, the timed research building to it, Pokémon GO’s 4th-anniversary celebrations, and everything else going on this month, there’s an awful lot to keep trainers busy. Pretty impressive for a game that’s designed to be played outdoors with friends considering we are still in the midst of a pandemic.

On top of all that, Niantic has also added something called Strange Scraps to the game. Well, not to the game per se, but it has been dropping teasers about these Scraps on social media and via the in-game news channel. The Scraps show Team GO Rocket members, presumably up to no good, messing about in an around hot air balloons.

According to Professor Willow, the Scraps were discovered by the leaders of Pokémon GO’s three teams and placed on his desk. Willow has then shared the information imparted on him by Blanche, Spark, and Candela to trainers via the aforementioned updates. Blanche discovered the first of the Scraps during the solstice event, and reports seeing Rocket Grunts acting strangely in the area at the time.

There also appears to be a link between the Scraps and another image that was shared by Niantic recently. It shows three Clefairy dancing under the moonlight during the Solstice event. However, what trainers might not have noticed is the silhouette of what we are now assuming is a Team GO Rocket balloon way off in the distance, between the moon and the tree on the right-hand side.

Some of the Scraps appear to be instructions on how to assemble the hot air balloon, while others demonstrate how to catch a Pikachu. Team Rocket’s mode of transport in the Pokémon TV show was a balloon, so chances are that element of the franchise is about to play into Pokémon GO. How exactly remains to be seen, but if Grunts are about to start stealing our prize Pokémon, you had better believe we are ready for trouble, and make it double.
