Pokémon GO Yveltal Legends Event Will Introduce Sylveon

Both Yveltal and Sylveon will be making their Pokémon GO debuts during the latter half of May as part of the title’s upcoming Luminous Legends Y event. Since launching to massive success back in 2016, Niantic’s augmented reality mobile game has managed to maintain a strong player base as it draws ever closer to its five-year anniversary.

To celebrate the five-year milestone, Niantic has given its players plenty of new content over the first half of 2021. One of Pokémon GO’s more recent, albeit somewhat smaller events was the Marill Limited Research Event on May 9. There were some issues, however, when the event was prematurely launched two days prior to its scheduled time, forcing Niantic to reset the progress of some eager players who took advantage of the mishap. Now Niantic has announced a much larger in-game event that will happen during the last two weeks of May, and it is likely the developer will be far more vigilant to avoid another premature start.

Pokémon GO announced via blog post that the Luminous Legends Y event will kick off on Tuesday, May 18 at 10:00 AM local time, and will be split into two parts. The first part will run until Monday, May 24 at 8:00 p.m. and among other features will see Yveltal debut as a five-star raid. Part two begins on Tuesday, May 25 and goes until Monday, May 31 with the same times as part one. Sylveon will make its Pokémon GO debut during this time, along with many Eevee-inspired features as well as other updates that are event specific.

It seems that it is only a matter of time before Pokémon GO includes the entire roster from all existing generations of Pocket Monsters. That said, making events out of these new inclusions seems to be a good way to keep the player base excited, particularly when it comes to legendary Pokémon, while simultaneously lengthening the whole introduction process. Niantic undoubtedly has more plans similar to Luminous Legends Y that will fill out the rest of the calendar year and likely extend far beyond.

Not only is Pokémon GO celebrating its five-year milestone this year, but the entire Pokémon brand is celebrating its 25-year anniversary as well. There are a lot of announcements that longtime fans were expecting coming into this year, and it seems that Niantic is doing its best to contribute. Hopefully the Luminous Legends Y event is a smash success with Pokémon GO players and keeps them interested for everything else to come in 2021.
