An easy way to catch ’em all is finally here, and Pokémon Home couldn’t have arrived at a better time. The release of Pokémon Sword & Shield has given players even more creatures to catch, but that also meant Trainers needed a way to track their Pokédex across multiple handheld devices and the Switch. While it’s great having our collection in one unified application, it can become a bit unwieldy trying to navigate thousands of individual Pokémon.
Thankfully, voice recognition can be used with the mobile app to make this process a bit easier. The functionally can only be used with the iOS or Android version — not on the Nintendo Switch — and also doesn’t work with all features. Anything that can take advantage of voice recognition will have a small microphone icon next to it, making it easy to determine when you can use it.
Right now, the best way to apply this feature is when searching for specific Pokémon. Simply click on the microphone icon and say the name of the Pokémon you’re looking for. That’s it! Unfortunately, voice recognition hasn’t been implemented for types, genders, natures, or abilities, but we have to imagine these will be added in the future.
While the feature certainly works, many users are reporting a few bugs with the system. Specifically, Pokémon Home is having trouble detecting the microphone on some smartphones. Whether or not this is related to specific phone models is unknown, but it’s something that needs to be addressed in the future. As of now there doesn’t seem to be a workaround for the glitch — even clicking on the microphone again and retrying the process doesn’t seem to help.
We’ll chalk this up to the fact that Pokémon Home is still a new piece of software and there are probably several bugs that need to be squashed. This isn’t the first time the application has had problems, so The Pokémon Company is definitely aware the issue.
Pokémon Home is available on iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch. It’s free to use, but serious Trainers can subscribe to the Premium Plan — with an annual fee of $15.99 — for a bunch of extra features.
