It’s always fun to see how a Pokémon will be modified for a regional variant, will they be totally similar to their original version with only slight modifications, or will they be completely flipped on their head?

One of the most shocking regional variants is Corsola, who goes from a happy little creature based on coral to, well… let’s take a look at Johtonian Corsola vs. Galarian Corsola to see how they differ from one another, and to find out which version is superior to the other.

10 Johtonian: It’s Literally Precious

Look at little Corsola, how cute is this one? Obviously based on coral, Corsola is a water-type Pokémon that has a pink and white coloring. It is one of those Pokémon that is literally just made to be adorable, and it is doing it flawlessly. Johtonian Corsola is cute, but Galarian Corsola, on the other hand…

9 Galarian: It’s Ghoulish

Galarian Corsola is the total opposite of its Johtonian counterpart. Ancient forms of Corsola used to roam the Galarian seas, but due to something that we’ll get to a bit later, they were wiped out. Now, these ghostly Pokémon roam the seas in place of their ancient counterparts. It’s a sad Pokémon, honestly, but it’s incredibly interesting.

8 Johtonian: The Shiny Form

While Galarian Corsola’s shiny form is fine, Johtonian Corsola’s is just fantastic. The bright blue really pops in comparison to the regular pink color, and makes Corsola stand out in a great way.

Galarian Corsola obviously isn’t the type of Pokémon that is meant to pop, but its shiny form is just pretty boring in comparison.

7 Galarian: The Environmental Warning

As previously noted, Galarian Corsola used to be very lively and populous in the Galarian seas. However, the species was knocked out by none other than climate change. That’s right, Galarian Corsola is now a Ghost-type species due to the effects of climate change.

While Johtonian Corsola’s Pokédex entries have always referenced their stalks crumbling away and being unable to survive in polluted water, Galarian Corsola is impactful in a totally different way, actually illustrating what happens when climate change is at its worst. That alone makes Galarian Corsola an incredible Pokémon, as it has a very important message to share.

6 Johtonian: Coral Origins

Johtonian Corsola’s design inspiration is a very interesting one, being based on coral, as we’ve mentioned several times. It’s a very interesting part of nature to model a Pokémon design on, but it works flawlessly. Corsola might not necessarily be described as beautiful like coral often is, but it sure is cute.

5 Galarian: Cursola

Of course, one of the biggest things that Galarian Corsola has over the Johtonian variant is an evolution, Cursola. Cursola’s body is surrounded by otherworldy ectoplasm that is dangerous for humans to touch, furthering the line’s motif of being wiped out due to human activity. It’s a fitting evolution, and helps Galarian Corsola stand out from the original in a way that it simply can’t compete with.

4 Johtonian: They Hide Small Pokémon

One cute little tidbit about Johtonian Corsola is that they often form in large groups, which small Pokémon use as cover to hide from their predators.

It’s a small detail but goes to show how kind of a Pokémon Corsola is, hiding small Pokémon that might not have the means to protect themselves. It seems as if Corsola is as kind as it is cute.

3 Galarian: A Shocking Transformation

Galarian Corsola is a full departure from its Johtonian origins. It holds the same motif as Corsola while being a completely different take on it. It does it flawlessly. Regional variants are always really fun takes on their original forms, but Galarian Corsola takes it to another level, doing something incredibly interesting.

2 Johtonian: It’s Pure

Pokémon Johtonian Vs Galarian Corsola Which Is Better

All-in-all, Johtonian Corsola is a very pure Pokémon. It is adorable, who could argue that? Its pink color scheme complements its coral origins perfectly, and it overall has a very solid design.

More than that though, the Pokémon is a kind one, even helping small Pokémon hide from their predators when in need. It’s very sweet. It might not have an evolution like its Galarian counterpart, but does it really need one?

1 Galarian: It’s Terrifying

Galarian Corsola is straight-up terrifying, but for good reason. It is a warning to humans, it perished because of them, and now it is a danger to their wellbeing. Galarian Corsola didn’t do anything wrong, but it was still punished as a result of human activity. It’s a very sad story.

While it does have a sad story, overall, Galarian Corsola is a very important Pokémon, it has a message. Beyond that, it has an entire evolution that its Johtonian counterpart doesn’t have. While Johtonian Corsola is a fine Pokémon by all means, it simply can’t compete with its Galarian variant. It just has too much tipping the scales in its favor, earning it the win in this battle.
