Pokemon Legends: Arceus offers unique challenges in the way the story progresses. Instead of gym battles, players must use head-to-head combat against powerful Noble Pokemon. These Noble Pokemon are fierce – but manageable – if you plan your strategy when you face them. We ranked the Noble Pokemon from easiest to the most difficult so you can psych yourself up as you progress in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

5 Kleavor

Kleavor is a powerful bug and rock-type Pokemon and the first noble Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, so it makes sense that it is the easiest to defeat. At this stage in the gameplay, the supporting characters explain to your main character in detail exactly how to battle Noble Pokemon and which attacks to be on high alert for.

The biggest challenge against Kleavor is the newness of playing this style of gameplay. You are essentially defeating a boss in battle, which seems unusual for a Pokemon game. Until now, Pokemon never seemed all that threatening to humans. Once you get into the rhythm of this boss battle, you’ll easily defeat Kleavor, especially if you learn that you can bait him into charging at the large tree in the center of the battlefield. It may take a few tries, but Pokemon Legends: Arceus is forgiving and lets you continue the battle if you collapse.

4 Lilligant

Lilligant is such an elegant Pokemon, so it’s difficult to see it as an actual threat. It would help if you still keep your guard up when facing it. Its move set is based on a ballet dance, but do not let this distract you during battle. The biggest challenge is that Lilligant is a fast Pokemon, so it can easily catch up to you and hit you with its swift attack style if you don’t employ your dodge roll ability liberally.

Lucky for the players, the battle stage when you face Lilligant is large. This gives you plenty of space to dodge its attacks. As long as you time your rolling dodges well, you will have the space to avoid whatever Lilligant throws at you. It does not have a particularly high health bar either, so after throwing a handful of balms, you’ll stop its frenzy and be able to smack it down with some handy fire-type attacks.

3 Avalugg

Avalugg is the final Noble Pokemon and is located in the Alabaster Icelands. The Alabaster Icelands are one of the most difficult terrains to travel across, and the Noble Pokemon battle also reflects this challenging part of your Pokemon journey.

When facing Avalugg, you will be on a small frozen ice block while this massive Pokemon throws ice and snow your way. You don’t have as much space to dodge, nor do you have as much time to react. However, this Pokemon’s attacks are thrown at you in an easy-to-spot pattern. If you pay attention to the pattern, you can calm Avalugg’s rage.

2 Electrode

Electrode is one of the most difficult Noble Pokemon to battle. It has the rough combination of sporadic attacks, a wide range across the map, and a high health bar, that makes battling it seem impossible at first. Even though this battle can be so frustrating that you might even consider quitting the game, remember you can always select the option to continue if you collapse.

The battle against Electrode is so fast-paced and busy that players can use few consistent strategies to defeat it. The entire map will be covered in its electricity at almost all times, making dodging a pain. Most players agree your best plan is to dodge its fast-paced electric attacks constantly and to wait for the very brief opportunity when it pauses. You may have to sacrifice some of your health to stand and throw balms, but this is the quickest way to victory.

1 Arcanine

About halfway through the Pokemon Legends: Arceus story, you encounter the Noble Hisuian version of Arcanine. Despite two other battles after Arcanine, most players agree this is the most intense battle. Arcanine is both fast and powerful, and the fiery stage that sets the scene of this battle is difficult to navigate.

Arcanine is fought at the molten arena, which is full of lava pits. The map is a broken, unusual shape that makes dodging Arcanine’s attacks a huge challenge. Arcanine releases a swirling flame ring in the center of the map towards the end of this boss fight if you survive for long enough. There is almost no way to throw balms close enough to reach Arcanine unless you simply walk into the flames and allow yourself to get burned. You must save your strength before you reach this stage if you want to finally calm Arcanine’s frenzy.
