In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the primary focus is catching Pokemon and exploring the semi-open areas. In contrast, some past Pokemon games focus more on battling and getting the strongest Pokemon party to battle other players locally or online. While online features indeed take a backseat in Pokemon Legends: Arceus (there’s no online battling), players can still trade Pokemon with friends, but the game doesn’t necessarily point it out for new players.

Players need to have made it past some of the early story missions in Pokemon Legends: Arceus before getting access to the communication features like trading and Mystery Gift. Specifically, players need to finish Mission 5, “A Request from Mai.” Once it’s complete, trading will become available in Jubilife Village, but players need to know where to look.

To connect online and trade with friends in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, players must be subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online service (NSO). The base membership costs $20 a year (or $4 for one month). Users can purchase a family plan for $35 annually, allowing multiple people to be part of a single membership.

Where to Trade Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

After Mission 5 is completed, players should head to Jubilife Village and go to the front of the Training Grounds area. There will be a woman there named Simona that runs a small cart. If players speak to her, they can spend their Merit Points earned from returning lost satchels or connect to a friend to trade Pokemon. Select the option that says, “I want to trade Pokemon.”

How to Trade Pokemon

Once players choose the option to trade Pokemon, there will be two options to choose from: Someone nearby or Someone far away. If players want to trade with a player that’s in the same room as them, they should choose Local play; if players want to trade with someone online, they should choose someone far away. After picking the option players prefer, they will now need to input an eight-digit Link Code. This ensures that two players looking to trade get matched up with one another. So, think of a unique string of numbers and then send the numbers to your trading buddy, so the two players can find one another.

There are some Pokemon that can evolve through trading, like Kadabra -> Alakazam, and Haunter -> Gengar. In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, though, there are items that players can get, like Linking Cords, that can evolve these Pokemon without having to trade at all.

Can You Battle Friends in Pokemon Legends: Arceus?

In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, players cannot battle against their friends online. Only trading is available, but perhaps in a future update from Game Freak, the functionality could be added. Fans will just have to wait and see.
