The world of Pokémon is full of tons of mysteries. Playing as trainers, fans get to travel the world and find new Pokémon partners to accompany them. Not everyone in this world is a trainer though, there are tons of people occupying the various day-to-day jobs throughout the regions.

This leads many players to wonder what it would be like to step away from the trainer role and become something quite different. What would it be like to be a cop, a nurse, or even a humble farmer? Even more importantly, though, what are the jobs you would want to avoid?

10 Janitor

You don’t see them often, but there are sanitation professionals in the world. These cleaners help to mop up the messes made by Pokémon like Grimer. With the size of some creatures, you can only imagine the type of mess they leave behind. You wouldn’t want to be the “lucky” person left to clean-up Wailmer droppings. Needless to say, most people would likely prefer to steer clear of this one.

9 Scientist

Scientists don’t seem to be the happiest people in the Pokémon universe. While some researchers like professors don’t seem to have a great deal of trouble, scientists often find themselves kidnapped or being held captive by the evil organizations of the games.

The constant threat of being kidnapped has to result in some major job stress, especially when you are working with delicate research.

8 Pokemon Daycare Provider

One of the most commonly recognized jobs is being a Pokémon breeder. The easiest way to do this would most likely be taking a position at your local daycare. This would come with a ton of downsides and potential issues, from problematic Pokémon to the occasional rude and demanding trainer. On top of that, think about how many eggs you’d have to handle.

At the end of the day, it just seems like it would wind up being more work than it was worth.

7 Restaurant Worker

Let’s take a minute to talk about the problems posed by battle cafes. While this is a unique idea, think about the mess it causes. Tons of trainers battling in an enclosed space all day is bound to make an incredible mess. The owner will most likely want you to keep the restaurant spotless while this is going on to boot.

The clean-up would be annoying, much less worrying about selling food with all the carnage going on!

6 Grunts

Most fans would hopefully avoid taking a job position from any shady organization. If someone did happen to become a grunt, though, then their life would be filled with sub-par teams and humiliating defeats. They would also only be allowed to go outside when the leader allowed it. It’s safe to say that grunts probably don’t get a great salary either.

5 Fishermen

If you have ever tried to use a fishing rod in the games, then you know that you never get the Pokémon that you want. Think about how frustrating this would be if you had to catch a certain type of fish to make a living. This is why you find fishermen standing in the same place no matter what time of day. Unless you want to pull all-nighters, it would be best not to be a fisherman.

4 Rancher

Working on a Milktank farm wouldn’t be that bad, but think about how terrifying it would be to wrangle Tauros. Tauros are known for their bad attitudes, and the powers they wield are incredible. This job would likely lead to many injuries and tons of late-night calls due to escaped livestock

Unless you have wanted to dodge angry bulls all your life, you should avoid being a rancher.

3 Silph Co. Employee

Silph Co. may seem like a great place to work at first, but their products are highly sought after. If you worked there, you would most likely become a hostage at some point in time or even end up kidnapped. Team Rocket isn’t the type of team to give up and will come for your inventions time and time again. Unless you want to deal with tons of harassment, it may be best to keep clear of this company.

2 Radio Host

Another career that would be no fun is being a radio host. Not only do you stand the chance of being held hostage (a concerningly frequent occurrence on this list), but listening to the same songs every day would be completely boring. It’s safe to say that the people working at the radio tower probably don’t have that much fun. Radio also only seems to be a thing in a select few regions, greatly limiting the job pool.

1 Boat Captain

The first captain you ever meet in the games is literally holding himself over a trash can and throwing up. This, coupled with the sunken boats you can find, should make you want to avoid being a captain. All it takes is for someone to rub a Gyrados the wrong way, and your ship will have a hyper beam going through it. Being a captain is a dangerous job that probably just isn’t worth the trouble.
