The latest trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus has revealed that it will feature the Diamond Clan and the Pearl Clan, which are references to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl on the Nintendo DS, and their recent remakes on Nintendo Switch. Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ setting is the Hisui region, which is an ancient version of the Sinnoh region from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.

Despite being set in the distant past of the Sinnoh region, Pokémon Legends: Arceus has a lot of connections to the present version of the well-known location. When the game releases next year, players take on the role of a member of the Galactic Expedition Team, which is a reference to Team Galactic who would terrorize Sinnoh in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Some of the residents of the Hisui region are related to characters in the present day, such as Commander Kamado, who is the ancestor of Pokémon’s Professor Rowan.

A new trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus has been uploaded to The Official Pokémon YouTube channel, showing off more of the upcoming game’s world. The trailer introduces the Diamond Clan and the Pearl Clan, current residents of the Hisui region, and who the Galactic Expedition Team must deal with. The Diamond Clan is led by Adaman, who has a Leafeon as his partner Pokémon. The leader of the Pearl Clan is Irida, who has a Glaceon as her partner Pokémon. The two are always arguing, despite the two clans sharing many beliefs. The two partner Pokémon they have are Eeveelutions that were introduced in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, adding another Gen IV reference to the pile. Some of the clan members are Wardens, who deal with the Noble Pokémon that inhabit the Hisui region.

The trailer also introduces the Gingko Guild Merchants, who are traveling salesmen that journey from region to region in order to sell their wares. It’s likely that these will act as a Pokémon Center equivalent, as chain stores probably don’t exist in the ancient Hisui region. It’s also likely that these will be merchants that the player can meet while out on missions in the field, giving them the chance to stock up on items without needing to return to town.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Hisui region was originally billed as being devoid of humans, with it being hinted that the Galactic Expedition Team would help settle the region. It seems that the Hisui region has residents of its own, though what role they might play in the game remains a mystery. It’s possible that the player will need to unite the Diamond and Pearl Clan, as part of the formation of what will become the Pokémon Sinnoh region.
