Lots of new content is making its way to Pokémon Masters, including the game’s first shiny Pokémon and a new type of battles. Shiny Pokémon are widely sought after in other Pokémon games, giving trainers a good reason to keep looking for new additions to their team even once they’ve filled their Pokédex.

Released in August 2019, Pokémon Masters hasn’t captured players’ attention quite as much as the mega-popular Pokémon Go, but it’s still got plenty of fans. The mobile game features classic Pokémon and trainers from other entries in the Pokémon series, including popular characters like the Elite Four. In one of its most substantial additions yet, a recent update added the original Pokémon starters – Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle – with a mechanic that lets players hatch new Pokémon from eggs.

Pokémon Masters’ egg hatching mechanic will also play into its introduction of shinies. According to a press release from the Pokémon Company, players will be able to hatch eggs in a new area of the game called Bellis’ Lab, which will have a chance of hatching into shiny Pokémon. At the same time, more Pokémon are being added to the list of those that can be hatched from eggs, including Tauros and Meowth. The Pokémon Company says that more Pokémon will be hatchable in the future, arriving in events tied to specific Pokémon types.

Along with the changes to Pokémon eggs, Pokémon Masters is adding a new story event and a new battle type. Serena’s Dessert Party is a limited time event available until July 20 that tasks players with recovering stolen ingredients for a Pokémon party. The Serena’s Dessert Party event will also introduce Full-Force Battles, a new kind of battle that challenges players to triumph using only a limited number of sync pairs. To coincide with the limited time event, Serena and her companion Fennekin are being added as a new sync pair, which the Pokémon Company says “specializes in restricting opponents’ movement” with techniques like putting them to sleep.

Pokémon Masters’ gacha style gameplay may not be for everyone, but fans are getting a lot of new content at once with this latest update. Hunting for shiny Pokémon has always been a great reward for revisiting areas and putting more time into Pokémon games, and it will likely serve the same function here. Now that the Pokémon Company has confirmed that more hatchable Pokémon are coming, it will be exciting to see which fan favorites show up next.
