DeNA’s Pokémon mobile game, Pokémon Masters, has a new special event starting tomorrow. The Japanese mobile tech company announced via Twitter that the event “Serena’s Dessert Party” would feature Pokémon X & Y’s lead trainer, accompanied by her fire pocket monster, Fennekin.

Serena’s debut in Pokémon Masters will feature the main quest set around her Dessert Party, as well as Serena’s spotlight scout banner. The tenth story event will feature trainer Jasmine and her steel Pokémon Steelix, along with a list of special missions to conquer along the way. The game’s latest update mentioned that the renewed version of the Battle Villa would be also be live during Serena’s event.

DeNA posted a promotional video to their Twitter account yesterday, featuring Serena, Fennekin, Jasmine, and Steelix revealing the plot of their episode event. The story will follow the two trainers as they encounter a hungry Steelix. The pair then proceed to collect ingredients for candy making in order to feed the peckish Pokémon.

Serena is known from Pokémon X & Y, first released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, and is the female counterpart of trainer Calem from Gen 6. Serena comes from the region Kalos – somewhat of a fashion icon in the Pokémon world. A previous companion of Ash, Serena is bright and bubbly, but takes battling seriously. Her first Pokémon was Fennekin, whom she accepted from Professor Sycamore at the start of her journey in X & Y.

Pokémon Masters is a free-to-play mobile game, first released in August 2019. Players duel with other trainers in 3-on-3 battles, collecting Pokémon trainers from the core game series on their interactive journey. The battle game is set on the island of Pasio and allows trainers to not only battle, but build their ideal team of trainers and make friends as they go. Pokémon has always been about community, where friends can collect and compete against each other in a healthy environment. Masters builds on this idea, even if it isn’t as popular as its predecessors.

Masters received 5 million pre-registrations and had 10 million downloads in four days, making $25m in revenue. Its initial hype was sadly dampened by complaints of underwhelming rewards, technical difficulties, and a general lack of content – yet it still has a healthy amount of players willing to partake. Like its sister mobile game, Pokémon Go, Masters includes regular events and continues to keep fans eager to catch ’em all.

Serena’s Dessert Party event will run from Tuesday, June 30th until Tuesday July 21st.
