Pokémon Quest Makes Over $3 Million In Its First Week On Mobile

Pokemon Quest may be a very different title than we’re used to seeing from Pokemon but that hasn’t stopped it from making big money.

Pokemon has been a part of our lives for more than 20 years. It has come in a variety of different forms. TV shows, trading cards, movies, and of course video games. Who among us didn’t have their love of Pokemon blossom via playing Pokemon Red, Blue or Yellow on GameBoy? We have come a long way since then though and Pokemon now has its own corner of the mobile gaming world.

What all of you will be familiar with when it comes to Pokemon’s foray into the mobile gaming world is Pokemon Go. We have been playing the augmented reality game for over two years now and in that time it has been downloaded an incredible 800 million times worldwide. Nintendo’s latest mobile offering, Pokemon Quest, is very different from Pokemon Go though.

The game is set on Tumblecube island and, as you can see, it resembles Minecraft somewhat. Rather than actively battling Pokemon against each other, you go on expeditions for ingredients so that you can cook recipes that entice the Pokemon to you. Like we said, very different from the Pokemon games we are used to playing but apparently, it is already proving to be very popular.

The game has only been available on mobile for a little more than a week and has already made $3 million, according to market intelligence company Sensor Tower. Even though the game is free to download and play, it involves a lot of waiting around and similar to most mobile games, you can pay to speed up those times if you so choose. Clearly, quite a few people have opted for that avenue.

Pokemon Quest is also available on Nintendo Switch and has been for more than a month. In that time, Switch users have already downloaded the game more than 2.5 million times. Evidently, those of us who are fans of Pokemon games don’t necessarily need it to be all about the battling, many of us are more than happy with the Pokemon/Minecraft/Cooking Mama hybrid that is the increasingly popular Pokemon Quest.

Josh has been gaming for as long as he can remember. That love began with a mild childhood addiction to the Sega Genesis, or Mega Drive since he lives in the UK. Back then, Sonic 2 quickly became his favorite game and as you might have guessed from his picture, the franchise has remained close to his heart ever since. Nowadays, he splits his time between his PS4 and his Switch and spends far too much time playing Fortnite.
