A new ASMR video starring Piplup has been released in celebration of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, featuring 30 minutes of Piplup antics. Piplup is one of the three starter Pokémon of BDSP, along with Turtwig and Chimchar, and stars in the original 2006 Nintendo DS games, as well as the remakes which released just last month for the Nintendo Switch.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are the latest pair of remakes from Nintendo and developer ILCA. They are the first of the core games to not be made by series developer Game Freak, unlike 2018’s Gen 1 remakes Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! While the two new remakes have proven to be financial successes, collectively selling over six million copies worldwide in just their first week on the market, the pair have received quite a bit of criticism from fans. Some have taken issue with the new art style and removed content, highlighting shortcomings the expected Gen 5 Pokémon remakes can hopefully avoid.

The Japanese Pokémon YouTube channel has published the new ASMR video, called “Hanging Out With Piplup,” which shows the Water-type Pokémon doing what the video’s title suggests: hanging out in a room. Piplup can be seen wandering around, playing, and even sleeping, all the while making its signature sounds. It must be noted though that in the Japanese version of Pokémon, Piplup is actually named Pochama so its yells revolve around that name rather than its globally-known moniker. Nothing else happens in the 30-minute clip, although that is arguably the point of ASMR videos.

This isn’t the first time the Pokémon Company has released an ASMR video for its Japanese audience. Last year, the company released a video of Charmander napping by a campfire, another with Squirtle at the beach, and even an ASMR video with Pikachu. The Pokémon Kids TV Japan YouTube channel also published an ASMR video featuring Grimer, somewhat revealing that the ongoing ASMR trend is actually pretty big in Japan, reaching multiple markets and age groups.

Much like the rest of the Pokémon ASMR videos that have been released thus far, this latest one featuring Piplup is just as adorable while also being fairly relaxing as well. This is especially true during the portion where Piplup is taking a nap, which emphasizes the relaxed nature of the video. While choosing Piplup to be its subject is expectedly meant to promote the sales and popularity of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Piplup is certainly a great choice regardless, and arguably the best one for an ASMR video among the three Sinnoh starters.
