A new trailer for the upcoming New Pokémon Snap remake on the Nintendo Switch has revealed just how brutal the world of Pokémon would be, with wild Pokémon actually being pretty dangerous. The reality of what wild Pokémon would be like has come to light in the recent clip, which went viral online, showing how Pokémon would actually be terrifying to live with.

New Pokémon Snap for the Nintendo Switch is the remake of the classic Nintendo 64 game from 1999, where players could take photos of wild Pokémon in their natural habitats. The game was a spin-off from the main series but has remained a fan favorite after all these years. This was the first game to render many Pokémon in real-time 3D, getting a re-release on the Nintendo Wii in 2007 and the Wii-U in 2016. Now the game is getting a complete overhaul in 2021, with New Pokémon Snap being made by Bandai Namco Studios.

On April 7, Poke_times, the official Pokémon Japanese Twitter account, posted a trailer for New Pokémon Snap that featured all-new footage of wild Pokémon in their natural habitats, revealing a brutal side of Pokémon that some fans had not considered. In the footage, a Magikarp can be seen happily swimming along, when suddenly a Pidgeot swoops down and snatches the fish Pokémon away. According to the Pokédex in Let’s Go, Pikachu & Eevee, Pidgeot flies at speeds of Mach 2, while Magikarp is known for being one of the weakest creatures in the Pokémon franchise, often splashing around in puddles and bodies of water.

It’s clear that the Magikarp had no chance against the apex predator, with the fish Pokémon often discussed as a common source of food for wild Pokémon alongside bug Pokémon such as Caterpie and Wurmple. New Pokémon Snap is clearly using this as inspiration, as the clip continues to show another Magikarp being dragged down into the dark depths of the ocean by another Pokémon, a wild Frillish, all while sporting an evil smirk.

In the Pokémon franchise, Magikarps evolve into the terrifying dragon-type Gyarados, which is a very angry sea serpent. Only a scarce few Magikarp survive long enough to become a Gyarados, but it makes sense now just why Gyarados also seemed so angry. In the Pokémon anime, James from Team Rocket’s Magikarp only evolved after James kicked it and angered the Magikarp, causing it to evolve and unleash its anger on Team Rocket.

The New Pokémon Snap is certainly trending towards realism in the remake, which matches the more realistic modern graphics being used. When the game releases on April 30, the internet is sure to be filled with clips like this, where the grim reality of the Pokémon world will be unveiled.
