A new Mythical Pokemon is set to be revealed soon. Friday morning The Pokemon Company confirmed that it has a new Mythical Pokemon in the works. This Mythical Pokemon is slated to be the star in the upcoming Pokemon movie, tentatively titled Pokemon: The Movie – Coco. The new Pokemon will also, of course, be coming to Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield sometime in the future. The date of the reveal is Pokemon Day on February 27.

No information has been provided about the new Mythical Pokemon up to now. A single 30-second trailer has been released for the Pokemon: Coco movie and the only Pokemon shown in it was Pikachu. At least, Pikachu’s the only Pokemon seen at first glance. Some have speculated that the mysterious floating bubbles in the trailer could be related to the new Pokemon. Or at the very least that the jungle itself might be tacitly related, or could even imply it’s a Grass-type Pokemon.

Pokemon: Coco is set to release in Japan in July. No western release has been confirmed as of yet. That could mean that the Mythical Pokemon is quite a ways off from being released in Pokemon Sword and Shield. It could mean that the Pokemon will be released in the game much earlier than the film releases, too. This sort of information will hopefully be shared on Pokemon Day.

Pokemon Day is a big day in the Pokemon franchise’s history, for those unfamiliar. Pokemon Day marks the release of the first Pokemon games. On February 27, 1996, Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green were released for the Game Boy in Japan. Between Pokemon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow, over 30 million copies have been sold, a number no other Pokemon generation has come close to. It’s understandable why The Pokemon Company would choose to celebrate the date annually.

The Pokemon Company also revealed some of its other plans for Pokemon Day in its announcement. Pokemon Sword and Shield will have a special Max Raid battle for players to check out. Pokemon GO will also have multiple in-game events for the holiday. The Pokemon Company also plans to share more information about Pokemon Masters. Expect more information leading up to The Pokemon Company’s Pokemon Day celebration on Thursday, February 27.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
