Pokemon Sword and Shield are probably the most controversial Pokemon games ever to release. The decision to cut so many Pokemon from the Pokedex, among a few others, has left many fans of the franchise feeling rather irate.

The first Pokemon Direct of this year announced content that would address, at least, the Pokedex concerns. In the near future, Game Freak will release two paid DLC’s. Both will reintroduce and even reimagine a lot of the older Pokemon that didn’t make it into the vanilla versions of Sword and Shield.

For some, this is good news: Pokemon they feel should have already been in the game are now officially on their way. Others, however, only heard “paid DLC,” and have taken to Twitter to hound Game Freak team members about their latest decision. One member in particular, Junichi Masuda, has had to deal with these complaints without rest, including today, on his birthday.

While thanking a friend for wishing him a Happy Birthday and “good year,” Masuda found himself dealing with another unsatisfied fan. The fan asked Masuda to speak on the idea that he cut Pokemon from the Pokedex just to create paid DLC. Masuda subsequently asked the fan to give him a break for today, as it was his birthday and holiday. The fan responded with, “I’ll do it later.”

At first glance, the fan’s response comes off as them telling Masuda that they’ll harass him if he doesn’t respond, but that may not be the case. “I’ll do it later,” can, admittedly, be interpreted in many ways in this conversation. The fan could have been agreeing to leave Masuda alone for today and to come back and ask their question again at a more appropriate time. Considering the fan doesn’t have another post in the thread, this was probably the intended meaning.

All in all, Masuda asking for a cease-fire to enjoy his birthday isn’t demanding much. Regardless of which side of the argument fans find themselves on, harassment won’t change anything. The Game Freak team has had to deal with fan disappointment in Pokemon Sword and Shield even before the games’ released. It doesn’t look like that’ll change in the future, but at least for today, on the man’s birthday, may he find a little peace from the chaos.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
