Items are a player’s best ally in any Pokémon game. Whether they’re Recovery, Evolutionary, or Miscellaneous, items enhance the gaming experience. They complement Pokémon battles and can even help with Pokémon training. No journey or adventure is complete without a plethora of these convenient aids.

Battle items are among the most useful. Players can purchase them at most Poké Marts, and while they certainly are expensive, they are worth the price. Some, including berries, are also available for free, but the player needs to find them. And with so many items in the games, some are bound to slip through the cracks.

10 Choice Specs

Introduced in Generation IV, the Choice Specs increase any Pokémon’s Special Attack by an impressive 50%. Its only downside is that the Pokémon can only use one move during battle.

Players can find the Choice Specs late into Sword & Shield’s plot once they reach Spikemuth City on their way to collect the eighth badge. The Choice Specs are also available as a Battle Tower reward in exchange for 25 Battle Points, but only after the main plot wraps. Considering they’re only available in one location in all of Galar, players can easily ignore them.

9 Old Gateau

The Old Gateau is another Generation IV item, a local specialty from the Sinnoh region. Sold in the Old Chateau for 100 Pokédollars, the Gateau cures Pokémon of any non-volatile conditions and confusion.

Since its introduction in Gen IV, the Old Gateau returned in every main series game, sold in specific locales. In Galar, players receive it as one of many rewards when winning a battle in the Battle Café. However, the rewards are randomized, so the chances of winning a Gateau are one in twenty-three.

8 Zoom Lens

A third Sinnoh item that players can also find in Galar is the Zoom Lens. They increase the user Pokémon’s accuracy by 20% as long as it moves second. If the user outspeeds the opponent, the Lens becomes useless.

Players find the Zoom Lens in Galar’s Route 9, late in the game’s storyline. The Rotom Bike needs an upgrade to access the Lens, which rests in an area of the route known as Circhester Bay. It is the only place in Galar in which they are accessible.

7 Babiri Berry

The Babiri Berry is situational but valuable. It lessens the damage taken from a Super Effective Steel-type move, making it an ideal aid for Fairy-types.

The Babiri serves as a Spicy curry ingredient in Sword & Shield. Players find it by shaking trees in the Bridge Field, inside the Wild Area, just northeast of Motostoke City. It also grows on trees at Giant’s Bed, which is only accessible through the Crown Tundra DLC.

6 Creation Trio Orbs

5 Rowap Berry

Introduced in Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver, the Rowap Berry serves as a counter for Special Attacks. When the user receives damage, the opponent loses 1/8 of its max HP. It only works against Special moves, though. Otherwise, it does not affect.

Because berry harvesting is no longer a thing in the Pokémon games, players can only obtain the Rowap Berry by shaking on trees. This particular berry only exists at Giant’s Bed, the middle part of the Crown Tundra. If players do not purchase the Crown Tundra, one of many DLCs released in 2020, the berry remains inaccessible to them.

4 Jaboca Berry

The Jaboca berry is in the same situation as the Rowap. It only exists at Giant’s Bed and is only obtainable by shaking trees.

Unlike the Rowap, though, Jaboca protects against Physical attacks. This yellow berry also makes the opponent lose 1/8th of its maximum HP but fails if the user receives Special damage. The Jaboca is also a curry ingredient in Galar, famous for its strong bitter taste.

3 Metal Powder

If the player wants a Ditto, then the Metal Powder is a convenient item to have. If held by a non-transformed Ditto, it sharply boosts the Pokémon’s Defense stat.

On most Pokémon games, players can’t purchase the Metal powder anywhere. Instead, there’s a 5% chance that a wild Ditto will hold the Powder, which means players need to constantly battle and catch these pink creatures hoping one of them will carry the item.

2 Float Stone

Introduced in Generation V, the Float Stone is a very light stone that resembles an Everstone. It halves the weight of the Pokémon holding it, which reduces the damage taken by weight-based attacks, such as Low Kick or Grass Knot.

In Sword & Shield, the Float Stone is only available through the Digging Duo in Bridge Field. Players pay 500 Watts, and the Duo will dig for treasure, one of which can be the Float Stone. Otherwise, the player can make the Stone using the Cram-o-matic, located in Mustard’s room in the Master Dojo on the Isle of Armor.

1 Eject Button

Also introduced in Generation V, the Eject Button allows a Pokémon to switch out after taking damage from a direct hit, Physical or Special. The Pokémon in question mustn’t faint, and the player can choose any substitute from their party.

The Eject Button is a Battle Tower exclusive reward, received in exchange for 20 Battle Points. Because this is the only way to obtain it in Generation VIII and is one of many prizes in the Tower, players will likely ignore it or simply miss it altogether.
