Pokémon The 5 Best Shiny Pokémon (& 5 Worst)

Shiny Pokémon are like a status symbol to those that play the video games. There is nothing really different about them except for their rare color difference. The color difference is unique to every kind of Pokémon too. For example, Ninetails turns silver while Drifblim turns gold. Due to that, there are some shiny Pokémon much more sought after than others. Some colors are just more attractive to certain players.

With shiny Pokémon being so rare, players typically keep any shiny they can. However, there are certain ones that are definitely more disappointing than others. Here is a list of the best and worst shiny Pokémon.

10 (Best) Charizard

Pokémon The 5 Best Shiny Pokémon (& 5 Worst)

Charizard has been a fan favorite since the beginning. Its shiny form has not always been the same either. It used to be purple, with was pretty cool. However, fans liked it even better in the more recent games when the shiny version became black. Then when Mega forms became a thing, everyone lost their minds at Mega Charizard X, whose fire turns blue!

Black dragons are just cool, and blue fire is a cherry on top. Also, its a starter Pokémon so a lot of players are attached to this particular Pokémon

9 (Worst) Golduck

There is nothing more disappointing than a shiny Pokémon that does not even look very different from its regular colors. Golduck is one of those disappointments, being only a slightly darker shade of blue from a regular colored version.

Shiny Pokémon are something you want to show off to other players! Imagine showing this Golduck and someone not even noticing the difference.

8 (Best) Umbreon

Pokémon The 5 Best Shiny Pokémon (& 5 Worst)

Shiny Umbreon is very similar to shiny Charizard, and that is probably why they are both popular. If there is any doubt as to Umbreon being one of the best shiny Pokémon, just look it up. There is a ton of fanart of this version!

Its shiny form is not so different from its regular form, but fans still love how the typically yellow marks turn blue and the red eyes turn gold. It also probably helps that Umbreon is still one of the most popular Eevee evolutions.

7 (Worst) Raichu

Like Golduck, a shiny Raichu is barely different from its counterpart. Same with Pikachu as well! That is really disappointing since Pikachu is the face of Pokémon. Wouldn’t it be cool it Pikachu and Raichu turned white or black?

Charizard has taught us that shiny forms can change since it went from purple to black. Maybe Pikachu will eventually get similar treatment? Surely the Pokémon company can see the cash signs in that.

6 (Best) Ninetails

Going from blonde to silver fur is a pretty cool change, especially for a fox-type Pokémon. Like Charizard, Ninetails has been around for a while and has a ton of fans. Its also a fire type, which contrasts with the shiny silver ice-like color which makes it even more attractive.

Silver color also adds a more mysterious element to an already mysterious Pokémon. Ninetails are based off of Japanese Shinto kitsune legends, so that is pretty cool.

5 (Worst) Mismagius

Pokémon The 5 Best Shiny Pokémon (& 5 Worst)

Some shiny Pokémon just get a hideous color all over their bodies. Mismagius is one of those unfortunate ones. The hue is a mixture of yellow and green that looks like cartoon vomit.

This is just a color that does not suit anyone. The fact that Mismagius is a ghost type only makes this color all the worse. The best this color could go one would be a grass type. Shiny Mismagius looks like a germ type if there ever was one. It just looks like a persona of disease and snot.

4 (Best) Dragonair

Pokémon The 5 Best Shiny Pokémon (& 5 Worst)

The color pink does not suit every Pokémon, but it is absolutely adorable on Dragonair. This dragon type Pokémon has been a fan favorite since generation one. Unfortunately, its evolution into Dragonite is not so beautiful so there are some players who do not evolve their Dragonairs just to keep it in this form. It is one of those evolution lines that are often complained about.

Dragonair is already cute and feminine, so this shiny version really polished what was already good about this Pokémon. Shiny Dragonair looks like the most friendly sea serpent in the world.

3 (Worst) Gyarados

Pokémon The 5 Best Shiny Pokémon (& 5 Worst)

Remember that shiny Pokémon are basically just status symbols for most players. Well, that is not true if you have a shiny Gyarados. That is because everyone got this Pokémon in the Gold, Silver, Heartgold, and Soulsilver games. They aren’t rare. They do get a little more rare the further we get from the the latest Johto region games, so at least there is that.

Its simply that they are not rare that they are one of the worst on this list. Otherwise, their design is rather nice. Red is a color that suits them since they are angry dragons. Also their mega form when they are shiny make them look like a Japanese carp windsock.

2 (Best) Absol

Pokémon The 5 Best Shiny Pokémon (& 5 Worst)

Absol is another fan favorite that got a favorable shiny palette. Its dark hues became a light red and the eyes are a bright emerald. Part of what makes this such a well done shiny is that the white fur was untouched. If the white fur changed along with the skin, its likely to be considered a little too alien to fans. As a fan favorite, fans already liked the original design so why change it too much? It is definitely noticeable though, making it a perfect balance between old and new.

Having a mega form also certainly helps with keeping a Pokémon popular too.

1 (Worst) Ursaring

Unfortunately there is a rather large percentage of shiny Pokémon that are cursed with a sickly green color. Ursaring is definitely not the only one. Such ones include Espeon, Mamoswine, Stantler, Mr. Mime, Marowak, Machamp, Tauros, Jolteon, Salamence, and more.

The sickly green color makes the Pokémon look radioactive, and not in a cool way. What would have been cooler? Almost any other color, but especially black and white (normal bear colors).
