In the Pokémon franchise, the main focus is usually on the Pokémon trainers and their battles. However, equally important are Pokémon breeders, whose main goal is to care and groom the Pokémon so that they can reach their highest level of ability. While some breed and groom Pokémon as a hobby, the breeding is also considered a serious profession in the Pokémon franchise.
Many notable Pokémon breeders have been introduced in the franchise. While they are not as popular as the strong Pokémon trainers, they have their own goal that they wish to achieve, and they do it while providing all the love and support to the Pokémon.
10 Day-Care Couple
The day-care couple was a recurring character in both the Pokémon anime and manga series. The couple was seen to run a daycare center, where they cared and hatched Pokémon eggs. Along with hatching the eggs, the day-care couple was also involved in raising other trainer’s egg . In the manga series, the day-care couple was friends with Professor Oak when they were young.
Mostly seen as hatching Pokémon eggs in the anime series, the day-care couple had also gifted one to Ash as a gift for winning the Extreme Pokémon Race.
9 Khoury
One of the recurring characters in Pokémon anime, Khoury was a Pokémon breeder from the Johto region. Always excited to meet a new Pokémon, Khoury battled against Ash to catch a wild Gible, to raise it, and managed to succeed. Khoury’s greatest wish was to become a master Pokémon breeder and he traveled around with fellow Pokémon trainer, Lyra, in search of new adventures.
According to the anime series, Khoury’ started Pokémon was Croconaw which evolved into a Totodile in a tag battle against Ash and Dawn.
8 Zane
As a Pokémon breeder, Zane always emphasized a Pokémon’s beauty, just like his childhood friend, Suzie. However, opposite to Suzie, Zane was a firm believer of the importance that lies in the Pokémon’s outward appearance in comparison to their inner character. After a series of events, Zane finally understands Suzie’s point of view and starts a beauty salon with her where a Pokémon’s inner and outer beauty is grown and enhanced.
In the series, Zane had successfully evolved his Vulpix into Ninetails. Since Zane loved the idea of a beautiful Pokémon, he decided to breed and evolve his Vulpix into Ninetails because of its stunning golden fur.
7 Shannon
Shannon was first introduced in the 757th episode of the Pokémon anime series as a Pokémon breeder. A childhood friend of Iris, Shannon resided in the Village of the Dragons and was a well-known breeder. During his appearance, Shannon was revealed to have been entrusted with the care of two Zweilous, a dual-type dark Pokémon, whom she had been looking after since they were hatched.
Wanting to explore the world more, Shannon wished to leave her village but she considered her duty as a breeder as more important. Shannon wanted to leave only after fulfilling her duty as a breeder by waiting for both the Zweilous to evolve.
6 Isis
Isis appeared in he 523rd episode of the Pokémon series as a Pokémon breeder. A stonecutter by profession, Isis was in-charge of the stone bridge construction project, but because of the head engineer’s mistreatment, her Pokémon, Bibarel, refused to work. To ensure that the construction was completed within time, Isis defeated the head engineer’s Pokémon and built the stone bridge with Ash and his friends.
Isis had trained Bibarel to become an expert stonecutter. Because of Bibarel’s expertise, the stone bridge was completed within the decided timeline. Along with Bibarel, Isis had also managed Pokémon such as Machamp and Machoke.
5 Reggie
Reggie was a former Pokémon trainer-turned-breeder in the anime series. Having obtained eight badges from Kanto, Hoenn, Johto and Sinnoh, Reggie decided to become a Pokémon breeder after he failed to get the Brave symbol and being told that he lacked in the battle.
Reggie had a lot of Pokémon raised and training under him such as Ursaring, Weavile, Magmortar and more. While retired as a trainer, Reggie also had a handful of Pokémon such as Bibarel and Swalot ready in case a fight occurs. Reggie also helped to raise and manage his younger brother, Paul’s Pokémon .
4 Suzie
Suzie was introduced as a famous Pokémon breeder in the 28th episode of the Pokémon anime series. As a breeder, Suzie had won many trophies and was also featured in a lot of magazines. Along with being a popular breeder, Suzie was also a Pokémon groomer and owned a salon with her friend, Zane.
While Suzie focused on the inner beauty and health of the Pokémon, she also loved to make her Pokémon look good. As a famous breeder, Suzie had also been approached by Brock, who is one of the main characters of the anime series, to accept him as her disciple. However, Suzie declined stating that she was too busy to accept a disciple.
3 Gold
In Pokémon Adventures, Gold was introduced as the main protagonist. Since Gold was raised in a house filled with baby Pokémon , he was well aware of the method to bring out their best potential. While Gold may have seemed reckless and stubborn at first, he had the immense skill of Pokémon hatching and was quite known as the Hatcher or Breeder.

As the main protagonist of Pokémon Heroes series, Sam Accardi was an accomplished Pokémon breeder and trainer. Sam had acquired his certification as a Pokémon breeder during his journey, where he also met his uncle, who was a fellow breeder. While Sam was on his way to Solaceon town with his friends, his Eevee egg hatched in two Eevee.
Since Sam had learned the method of breeding through his uncles and aunts, Sam was known to have the best skills as a Pokémon breeder. Sam’s on hand Pokémon exceeded six because he was a Pokémon breeder as well as a trainer, at the same time.
1 Brock
Having always dreamt of becoming a Pokémon breeder, Brock started his journey at a young age along with Ash, the main protagonist of the Pokémon anime series. In the beginning, Brock assumed the responsibilities as the leader of Pewter gym, but he later forsook his role and went ahead to fulfill his dreams of taking care of Pokémon rather than fighting them.
Throughout the anime series, Brock was seen as caring towards not just his Pokémon , but also of his friends with whom he traveled. Brock also ended up becoming a Pokémon doctor to help all of those Pokémon who needed care and attention.
