Pokemon has been at the forefront of popular culture ever since the franchise was created in 1995, and the series has been ever-present in a wide variety of mediums: gaming, trading cards, the silver screen, and even clothing. It’s the latter medium that is making waves this weekend, with Pokemon and custom-shirt curators Original Stitch partnering to release a full line of dress shirts for each of the original 151 Pokemon.
Each Pokemon has a custom shirt design attached to it, and the designs range from beach style casual to formal office wear. The collaboration strikes a fine balance between Pokemon nostalgia and clever subtlety, with some designs being obviously Pokemon-based to the casual observer, and other designs quietly blending their inspirations. This isn’t the first time that The Pokemon Company has partnered with clothing creators, either – gamers may remember a surprising Pokemon lingerie line that released a few years ago, though this new collection of garments are more suitable for the average fan’s workplace.
It’s not clear if this is a limited time collaboration, but it’s the result of a massive effort between The Pokemon Company, Original Stitch, and plenty of third-party designers. The official website gives credit to each pattern’s designer, each of whom presumably will get a portion of their pattern’s proceeds. With 151 designs to choose from, though, it’s going to be tough for Pokemon fans to narrow down a favorite.

The official Pokemon dress shirts can only be purchased and shipped within Japan, so fans around the globe would need to go through extraordinary means in order to obtain the cool merch. Individual shirts range from $100 up, so these designs are most likely for the more hardcore fans out there. Those who submit an order will be able to mix and match patterns for their collar lining, sleeves, and the shirt itself, giving plenty of options for the wearer.
The Pokemon series has come a long way since the first generation, with the eighth generation starters revealed for Pokemon Sword and Shield. For many gamers, though, the original 151 Pokemon are what brings peak nostalgia. Thus, it should be no surprise the first generation received this shirt-based spotlight from The Pokemon Company. At present time, it’s not clear if the company is considering extending the line of shirts patterns to new generations.
