Pokemons Haunted Village Collection Is A Brilliant Display Of Seasonal Nostalgia

*Updated 9/16/21 – A representative from the Pokemon Company International told TheGamer that “the Pokemon Haunted Village figures will be restocked in the coming days.”

Don’t tell anyone, but I’m going to surprise my wife and son with a spooky, Pokemon-themed surprise that will adorn the bartop area in our dining room. It’s a charming village miniature that will basically be a Halloween version of the Christmas village I set up every November to kick off the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.

I’m an absolute sucker for these Christmas villages that bring me back to my childhood when I would help my Grandma and Grandpa set them up on their shelf, then dreamily bask in the glow of the dimly lit houses and lanterns that lit pathways filled with porcelain and ceramic miniatures, before falling asleep and being carried off to bed. It’s very much a sense of nostalgia that I hope to instill in my son for when he’s older, which I’ll do by one-upping my own childhood by adding in a tiny village for the Halloween season.

My plan was to start the Halloween village with Department 56’s collection featuring Dia de los Muertos-themed buildings and accessories, since we celebrate that holiday in our family. My order just shipped, which will give me plenty of time to set it up and enjoy it during the spooky season. However, my plans may be altering a bit with the release of the Haunted Pokemon Village collection.

It’s rare for me to want to talk about a product before even owning it, but the Haunted Pokemon Village collection has me pretty darn excited. The collection features four different buildings: Lickitung Tasty Treats Figure, Pansage Creeping Vines Tea Shop Figure, Oranguru Ancient Archives Figure, and the Frillish Frightening Fountain Figure. Each piece is a Pokemon Center original, all of which were “delicately hand-painted to highlight the details in the scene.”

If you know your Christmas villages like I do, you’ll know that a hand-painted figure is part of what makes them so special. On the other hand, what sets the Haunted Pokemon Village collection apart from a typical village is that the figures are made of resin, rather than being porcelain or ceramic. This, no doubt, has to do with the fact that they are probably designed with kids in mind. Resin is a far more durable material than porcelain or a ceramic, so the Haunted Pokemon Village figures will be less likely to break when your kiddo inevitably drops it on the ground. As someone who has accidentally dropped more ceramic buildings and figurines than I’d like to admit, this is a great feature when it comes to letting your kids help set up your Halloween village.

Honestly, I could gush for hours about how excited I am for my new Halloween village installation this year, which will begin as a Dia de los Muertos-themed village and slowly transition into a whimsical world of Pokemon. “Pika-boo!”

As I write this, every piece of the Haunted Pokemon Village collection is sold out with no word as to when or if the villages will be back in stock in time for the Halloween season. I suppose there’s always eBay if you missed out, but with the prices that these pieces are reselling for right now, you might just be better off waiting until next year.
