Providing a next-gen gateway to nostalgia, Analogue’s multi-video-game-system Pocket will be available for pre-order on August 3rd. The handheld will start shipping around May 2021, and customers will be limited to 2 devices per order.

Available in sleek black and clean white, Pocket is not only capable of housing a plethora of handheld games, but it also comes with a digital audio workstation. Designed as “a tribute to portable gaming,” Analogue’s creation is compatible with over 2,780 Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance cartridges. Pocket also comes equipped with cartridge adapters, that opens up the handheld to Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color and Atari Lynx games too.

Analogue is aiming to provide a powerful system to support the classic, retro games of our childhood, and has the tech to back up the pitch. Featuring a first-in-class 3.5”, 615 ppi LCD, the handheld showcases a 1600×1440 resolution that’s 10x higher than the original Game Boy. Pocket will also feature a screen backlight, which was a luxury that most nineties gamers didn’t think twice about. The system’s pro level color accuracy, dynamic range, and brightness will provide a stunning display behind Gorilla Glass, and Analogue has claimed that “there has never been a display this advanced in a video game system.”

The system’s audio workstation Nanoloop acts as a synthesizer and a sequencer for musicians. Designed to support musical exploration and live performances, the Nanoloop will be able to manipulate various sounds, capture audio and play live. The handheld can be connected to a Mac, PC and other hardware that uses MIDI and Sync cables.

Pocket also features a ‘Sleep & Wake’ function, where gamers can press the power button to put the handheld into sleep mode, and press it again to immediately return to gameplay. Another feature that is an impressive nod to classic handhelds, is the Pocket’s display modes. The various modes emulate the original GB, GBC, and GBA displays, including the GB’s signature green hue and pixel grid patterns.

Even though retro gamers may be partial to using their relics, Analogue has built a fantastic, portable system to bring the joy of handheld classics into this modern platform. Nobody can deny the convenience of Pocket’s portability functions, combined with a studio that allows gamers to make their own creations and be a part of video game history.
