The Game Director behind the mysterious PlayStation 5 game Abandoned has announced yet another delay for its trailer app, which will now arrive in August. Developer Blue Box Game Studios originally planned to unveil the PS5 app on June 22; the reveal then received a small push to June 25.

The longer wait for a formal showcase adds to the mystery that’s surrounded Abandoned since its announcement in April. Early on, some onlookers sparked speculation of a possible Hideo Kojima connection, which the team at Blue Box managed to quickly squash. However, another Kojima theory reared its head just a couple of weeks ago when Blue Box shared a tweet that seemed to hint at Abandoned actually serving as a Silent Hill project. A trip down the internet rabbit hole launched a conspiracy of sorts, with multiple threads directly and indirectly tying Kojima and Silent Hill to the secretive PlayStation 5 exclusive. Game Director Hasan Kahraman has since come forward to put the rumors to bed once and for all.

Today, June 25, Hasan posted another video on Blue Box Game Studios’ official Twitter account. In the minute-long update, the developer informed followers of his decision to delay the PS5 trailer app for Abandoned to August. Hasan didn’t share a specific date, but did note that both the app and reveal trailer will go live at the same time. “We just wanted to give a solid first impression of the game,” he said, adding that the app isn’t meeting the team’s quality standards as of yet. There are still a few bugs to iron out, too, as well as localization issues that demand more attention. Hasan then concluded his message by apologizing for the delay and thanking followers for their support.

It’s a disappointing development, sure, but the constant delays and other issues seem to give credence to the fact that Abandoned does indeed belong to an indie studio. Though, it is still a little odd that a previously unheard of indie developer has gained access to a special PlayStation 5 feature.

The kind of experience Abandoned will deliver constitutes yet another mystery. Blue Box made it clear that players will explore an all-new survival horror experience, but details on perspective, story, character, and setting remain up in the air for the time being. Hopefully, August will bring some much-needed clarity.
