Rainbow Six Extraction got its first official look at gameplay at Ubisoft’s E3 press conference. This isn’t a typical Rainbow Six game, but it will still have some familiarity to players of Siege. Rainbow Six Extraction takes many of the gameplay fundamentals of Siege, but puts a bizarre supernatural twist on it as an alien parasite ravages the country.

The new game has had a rather extensive history, as it was revealed a couple of years ago as Rainbow Six Quarantine and went dark following the pandemic. After months of prolonged silence, Rainbow Six Extraction gameplay leaked online, giving fans an idea of what to expect from the new shooter that had been heavily teased by Ubisoft. Now, the company is ready to start showing the game as it gears up for a release this fall.

The official gameplay walkthrough of Rainbow Six Extraction, courtesy of Ubisoft, definitely looks a lot like the game many people have been playing for the last six years, just with a new supernatural coat of paint. The three-player co-op title may not appeal to Siege fans looking for the next big evolution of the franchise, but those seeking a big new co-op game may find something to enjoy in the title. There are still rather unique elements to Extraction beyond the parasite premise, such as stealth takedowns, special gadgets, and more, ensuring it still builds upon Siege’s formula and makes a name for itself.

Rainbow Six Extraction looks to be aimed more primarily at those who couldn’t get into Siege because of the intense and competitive PVP element. This seems to be a much more casual game that still captures the essence of the beloved tactical shooter. Whether or not it succeeds at trying to cast a wider net remains to be seen, as it’s hard to say if Siege fans will be interested in departing from the game they’re familiar with. But the strange, supernatural setting may yet succeed at bringing in casual fans who are more interested in alien monstrosities than in Ubisoft’s usual shooter fare.

Rainbow Six Extraction will also have some sort of post-launch support, similar to Siege, though it’s unclear whether or not the game will be updated as regularly as that major title. Either way, this is yet another intriguing game that will pad out Ubisoft’s 2021 line-up alongside the likes of Far Cry 6 and various DLCs. Perhaps if this performs well, Ubisoft will attempt to put more odd spins on its other established franchises like Ghost Recon and The Division.
