The Back To The Future trilogy is a classic. And why wouldn’t it be? It has time travel, sci-fi, pop-culture, action, adventure, high stakes, high energy, heroes, and the mundane meeting the impossible.

Not to mention, a DeLorean time machine, Doc Brown with his eccentric mannerisms, wild hair, and white coat, and Marty McFly with his dark orange “life-preserver” vest, braveheart attitude, and pride. But what if it were remade? Who would be cast today? There would be plenty of options.

10 Benjamin Evan Ainsworth As Video Game Boy

Video Game Boy made a short appearance in Back To The Future Part II, but Elijah Wood sure did make the most of it. So why not cast another young and rising star? Benjamin Evan Ainsworth just made his debut as Miles in The Haunting Of Bly Manor and he did a splendid job as the mature and serious boy who was possessed by an older character.

9 Olivia Cooke As Linda McFly

Linda McFly is Marty’s sister in the trilogy and is unknowingly swept up into the time-traveling chaos. Her life was altered according to the changes Marty made to the timestream, but her role is small and mostly within the family dynamic.

For her casting, Olivia Cooke is a likely candidate. She has appeared in Ready Player One (2018), Bates Motel (2013), and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015).

8 Yara Shahidi As Jennifer Parker

The character of Jennifer Parker was the love interest of Marty McFly and was portrayed by two different actresses during the series, Elisabeth Shue and Claudia Wells. Jennifer wasn’t a huge role, only added in during small moments, and not a crucial player in the time-traveling narrative.

Young actress Yara Shahidi, whose roles include Black-ish (2014) and The Sun Is Also A Star (2019), has a sweet yet rebellious acting style that would bring much-needed personality to the role.

7 Carla Gugino As Clara Clayton

The sweet, intelligent, and loveable character of Clara Clayton was first introduced in Back To The Future Part III and was played by Mary Steenburgen.

Clara is a dreamer and has a romance with Doc. If cast today, the role would be a gorgeous fit for Carla Gugino. The star has spunk, a beautiful delicacy in her emotions, and brilliant energy. Her most recent role is older Jamie in The Haunting Of Bly Manor.

6 Ben Kingsley As Mr. Strickland

Ah yes, Mr. Strickland, whose name basically says that he’s a strict old man. The role of the principal who made sure to put Marty in his place was portrayed by James Stewart Tolkan.

A candidate for the role could be renowned actor Ben Kingsley, who is just as capable of acting stern and serious as he is soft, damaged, brilliant and wise. Just a few of his roles include Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time (2010), Shutter Island (2010), Schindler’s List (1993), and Iron Man 3 (2013).

5 Anya Taylor-Joy As Lorraine Baines-McFly

Lorraine Baines-McFly’s wild and caring personality was originally portrayed by Lea Thompson. For a remake, Anya Taylor-Joy could be a possibility, with her most recent works giving her acclaim.

In her previous roles, including Beth in The Queen’s Gambit (2020), Emma in Emma (2020), and Casey Cooke in the Unbreakable film series, her acting is both serious and playful.

4 Dacre Montgomery As Biff Tannen

Biff Tannen is one of the most well-known bullies in cinema. He’s tough, dense, and insecure. He has a poor relationship with the McFly family and their dynamic is constantly changing according to the timelines. He changes history to become one of the richest and most powerful men in Hill Valley, pursues Lorraine, and belittles George.

Australian actor Dacre Montgomery’s performance as Billy Hargrove in Stranger Things was convincing and powerful, making him the perfect candidate for Biff Tannen.

3 Dylan Minette As George McFly

George McFly was unlucky and had trouble respecting and standing up for himself against Biff. He tried his best to make an impression on Lorraine but was overshadowed by Marty. The role was originally played by the talented Crispin Glover, who also played the older version of himself.

If the role was to be cast today, Dylan Minette would be an interesting fit for the role, having performed in emotionally vulnerable characters before.

2 Tom Holland As Marty McFly

Tom Holland. He’s the one who most people have compared to Michael J. Fox, the young star of Back To The Future. His role is the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the enthusiastic, clever, and comedic Peter Parker brought him to the attention and hearts of many viewers.

Marty McFly navigates the events of the past and future as a bewildered, smooth wingman, who can be both a cool rocker, a cowboy, and an everyday 17-year-old. It could be the perfect challenge and a shining moment for the rising star.

1 Peter Capaldi As Dr. Emmett Brown

In many ways, Dr. Emmett Brown is the heart of the films. He’s the cause, the brains, and the madness. His friendship with Marty is one of unfiltered honesty, loyalty, and understanding, one that quite literally transcends through time. The role was brought to life by the talent of Christopher Lloyd.

As a more recent choice, Peter Capaldi is a name that comes to mind, not just because he’s already been a Doctor on Doctor Who, but because he has the live-wire energy required for the role, not to mention the wild hair. He can be serious, eccentric, emotional, and chaotic, all at the drop of a hat.
