Red Dead Redemption allowed players to decide whether they wanted to embrace the harshness of the wild west or strive to be better than the cruelty and violence they saw everywhere around them. 10 Give The Stranded A Ride Home

The Red Dead series is riddled with random encounters you can come across, and the second game is no exception. During Arthur’s travels across the enormous map, he can often meet people who find themselves alone in the wild without a horse for one reason or another.

Arthur can offer these NPCs a ride home for some honor, and in one case he is told the chilling past of Emerald Ranch by a woman who lives there.

9 Pursue Bounties

The various sheriff offices in the game will often have posters up on the wall regarding a specific criminal with a bounty on their head. While Arthur is no friend of the law himself, these individuals sought after by the Sheriff are usually nasty pieces of work who prey on the innocent.

Taking them down and bringing them in to face justice does a service to both the larger populace and Arthur himself, allowing him to show that he is pursuing a nobler life.

8 Rescue Kidnapped Prisoners

Another random encounter Arthur can come across is the range of innocent civilians that have been taken hostage. While many of these situations are left ambiguous as to whether or not the prisoners are criminals or not, there are some that are more obviously victims in need of saving.

Arthur can comply with their calls for aid and kill their captors, in turn freeing them and earning himself a reward as payment for his daring rescue.

7 Turn In Edmund Lowry Jr

From as early as the first act in the game, Arthur can find clues surrounding a serial killer operating in the area. There are a few different victims’ bodies that can be found dismembered and strewn across different rural areas of the map, with scraps of paper making up fragments of a map to the killer’s lair.

If Arthur finds them all and goes to the location they point to, he ends up as the next would-be victim of Edmund Lowry Jr, but in true fashion he escapes and it is up to him to turn the man into the Sheriff, enssuring Lowry will be locked up for the rest of his days.

6 Assist Mary Linton

Arthur’s old flame may not be the most polite of people and she certainly has her qualms with the life he has chosen, but nevertheless she has a few issues she could use his help with. It may be easy to turn her down and leave her to sort out her own problems, but Arthur can opt to be a gentleman and put his personal feelings aside to assist her.

Should he do so each time she calls upon him, the two will share a pleasant evening together before departing one last time, and Arthur will be left downtrodden but confident that he did the right thing.

5 Help Rains Fall

Rains Fall and his son Eagle Flies crop up multiple times during the course of the story to work with the Van der Linde gang and they play an important part in the story. Arthur can ignore them later in the game and decide to leave them to their own devices, but the most honorable choice is to assist the old man with his troubles.

If he does, Rains Fall will sympathize with Arthur about his illness and the outlaw will even open up about the death of his wife and son before the events of the game, shedding more light on his tragic past.

4 Train The Widow

One of the many diverse and unusual Stranger missions the player can do involves Arthur coming upon a widow in the forest, kneeling by her husband’s grave. Revealing herself as Charlotte Balfour, she tells Arthur she is sure she will die of starvation now that her husband is gone as she does not know how to fend for herself. Arthur offers to teach her how to hunt and can revisit her sometime later to also train her how to shoot, with a third and final encounter days later revealing that she is doing well for herself.

Insisting he has been a good friend to her, she tells him he is welcome to take anything he wants from her house, extending a similar offer to John should he visit her and inform her of Arthur’s death during the Epilogue.

3 Help Sadie Get Her Revenge

The introduction for Sadie Adler establishes that the O’Driscoll gang brought wrack and ruin to her ranch and left her without a husband. As she spends more time around the Van der Linde gang members, she becomes more like them and eventually she asks Arthur to come with her as she hunts down the outlaws that destroyed the life she had.

The cutscene that plays after she brutally slaughters the specific man that killed her husband is harrowing, but it’s the closest Sadie will come to closure and Arthur can rest assured he helped her get to that point.

2 Allow Edith Downes To Start A New Life

The cruel irony of Red Dead Redemption 2 is that Arthur contracts tuberculosis by beating a debtor within an inch of his life for a few dollars he owed to the Van der Linde gang. After Thomas Downes dies from his injuries, though, Edith is forced to turn to prostitution to survive and support her son.

She is encountered a few times during the other chapters in the game, and Arthur can ultimately save her son from his brutal work in the mines as well as rescue Edith from a potentially violent situation with a customer. Afterwards, he offers her money despite her protest and tells her to start over with it, knowing it will never make up for what he did to her husband but that it might mean she and her son would not have to suffer as well.

1 Help John Escape

When things come to a head and the gang breaks down completely, Arthur and John flee together in an attempt to escape Dutch and the others. Realizing the money Dutch has been keeping from them all for the whole game is still in the cave at Beaver Hollow, Arthur is presented with his final and most important choice of the game; go back for the money or help John escape to his family. The most honorable choice is obvious.

Arthur does what he can but eventually accepts the fact that he can’t push on anymore and he stays behind to hold off the others while John flees. Offering him his hat, he tells John to run and the two brothers in arms share an emotional farewell.
