Rey became an instant fan-favorite after displaying her natural skills as a fighter and pilot and revealing she had just as much talent as a Jedi. Displaying her immense power and skill, while also her humility as a Jedi, she was a perfect combination of our favorite Jedi Luke, Anakin, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Anakin Skywalker was also a fan favorite with a lot of potential before he fell to the dark side and was forced to live his life as a half man half machine, Darth Vader. Although they never met or crossed paths, we can’t help but wonder which young Jedi would come out victorious in a lightsaber duel. Here are five reasons Anakin would win and five reasons why Rey would.

10 REY – Faster Learner

Similar to Luke, Rey got a very late start to her Jedi training, about 19 years too late. Although Anakin also got a late start, he was still a young boy and he still managed to go through all the Jedi training with other Padawans.

Rey was able to not only learn how to use a lightsaber literal seconds after picking one up but she also quickly got in touch with the force and learned to be a Jedi in less time than both Luke and Anakin

9 ANAKIN – More Powerful

From the very beginning, we knew Anakin was destined to be the most powerful Jedi ever and bring balance to the force as the chosen one. This caused the rest of the Jedi council to be wary of him and somewhat hold him back as he got older and more in touch with the force.

Although Rey is also strong with force, she doesn’t compare to Anakin’s pure strength with the force and his connection, being created by the Force itself. Even in the movies, comics, and shows we see Anakin accomplish greater feats of strength that Rey was years away from learning.

8 REY – More Fearless

Rey decided to become a Jedi and never really hesitated. She knows how grueling the journey would be and that it would take a lot of work, but she managed to persevere and become a powerful and respectable Jedi. She even took the Skywalker name at the end of Rise of Skywalker.

She managed to take on and defeat Kylo Ren several times, despite his years of experience over her and his powerful fighting style. Rey became a fan-favorite because of her ability to accomplish a lot in the span of the three movies.

7 ANAKIN – Longer Jedi Training

Anakin started his training at 9, which was old for a Jedi but he still managed to go through the training and become a respected Jedi in the council. He went through it all, the lightsaber building, the training, the missions, he even fought in a war as a general before he turned to the dark side.

Rey unfortunately never had the luxury of proper Jedi training but she did help in the destruction of the First Order. Like Luke, Rey had to get a compressed and unorthodox way of training meaning she didn’t have the same tedious training Anakin had.

6 REY – Training In Other Weapons

Anakin was always good with a lightsaber, taking on several opponents including Count Dooku, Obi-Wan, and even his own son when he became Vader. Whether he felt the most comfortable with a lightsaber or he just preferred it, we never really saw Anakin master any other weapon.

Rey on the other hand, was a master with her staff, a very capable shot, and she was very skilled with a lightsaber.

5 ANAKIN – Better Teachers

Like mentioned before, out of all the Skywalkers, Anakin had the most formal training and was able to learn from an established Jedi council, unlike his son and Rey. Anakin learned from Yoda in his prime, he learned from Qui-Gon Jinn, and he was formally trained under Obi-Wan for over a decade.

Rey had some training from Luke and Leia, but it’s nothing compared to Anakin’s teachers who were way more qualified and had the resources to properly train a Jedi.

Simply put, Rey basically got the cliff notes version of Jedi training compared to Anakin.

4 REY – Heritage

We all know the story of Anakin Skywalker, being born to a slave mother and a literal creation of the force itself. This is what makes Anakin so powerful and is what Qui-Got was excited about when he met Anakin.

Rey’s heritage remained a mystery up until the last installment of the new trilogy when it was revealed she was a descendant of the Emperor himself. This gave Rey a much more powerful connection to the force, even if it wasn’t as powerful as Anakin’s. Rey had a better understanding of her power and was able to control it before it goes out of hand.

3 ANAKIN – More Ruthless

Anakin Skywalker has had one of the most tragic story arcs in all of Star Wars, starting off as a promising young Jedi before being manipulated to join the dark side to save his wife. Anakin had a habit of being cocky and arrogant and often clashed with Obi-Wan and his other masters because he always felt like he was being held back.

This made Anakin more reckless and ruthless, killing a tribe of sand-people after they killed his mother, murdering Count Dooku after defeating him in battle, and even hurting the woman he was trying to protect. He let his anger get the best of him sometimes and he had to pay the price.

2 REY – Stronger Mentality

Speaking of anger, Rey was very much Anakin, born on a sand planet, found by an unlikely hero, and trained to be the hope for the light side. Rey was one of the most wanted rebels due to her connection with the Force and her raw power.

Unlike Anakin, Rey was able to resist the dark side despite the temptations and her unlikely relationship with Kylo Ren. She was able to see the bigger picture and she didn’t let her ego get the best of her, even though she had a lot of talent and skills.

1 ANAKIN – More Experience

Like mentioned before, Anakin had the luxury of learning from an established Jedi council and Rey, unfortunately, learned from a disgruntled Luke. Beyond that, Anakin went on 100s of missions with Obi-Wan, by himself, and even commanded a group of clone troopers in the Clone Wars.

Anakin fought hundreds of droids, sustained injury and scars in battle, and as Darth Vader, he fought the Jedi and the rebels. He has Rey beat in experience by over two decades.
