David Rose is one of the most lovable and unique sitcom characters out there, and Schitt’s Creek certainly achieved the impressive fame it did because this character is just pretty hard not to fall in love with. But although he’s lovable, David might actually be the first one to admit he’s far from perfect.

This quirky character grows immensely throughout the series, but he still has his flaws. While he’s always rocking a bold sweater, the guy underneath it can definitely have fans laughing and admiring or shaking their head and cringing. It’s time to separate the redeeming qualities and the not-so-redeeming qualities of David Rose.

10 Worst: Self-Absorbed

David does a big heart, but he can also be pretty guilty of putting himself above everyone else. He’s not afraid to share his dislike for anyone or anything, but usually it’s just because he doesn’t care enough to try new things or go out of his way to make others happy.

He does learn to get a bit better at this in his relationship with Patrick, but fans still know David is usually all about David. From whining about hiking with his boyfriend to refusing to let Jocelyn work at his store, David is a bit caught up with what David wants.

9 Best: Authentic

There are certainly times when David is his own biggest villain, but he still never stops being himself. From his phobias to his panic attacks, David still actually accepts himself and doesn’t try to kid himself about who he really is. He says what’s on his mind and acts how he wants to act.

Fans, and the other characters, always know what they’re going to get with David Rose. He doesn’t try to be someone he isn’t, regardless of the situation. He’s genuine and confident in who he is. It’s a redeeming quality, and fans can’t help but love that about him. Of course, it also makes for some pretty good entertainment.

8 Worst: Stubborn

While David sticks to who he is, it can also make him a bit stubborn. Once he decides something or has a vision for how something should be, there really is no changing his mind. Fans saw this first-hand with the wedding venue, the ‘vibe’ of the store, and pretty much anything to do with his living space.

Patrick is sweet and patient, and if he wasn’t, there would likely be a lot more arguing between them. David’s stubbornness provides some laughs, but it also comes with some eye rolls and head shaking. David could definitely learn to compromise a bit more than he does.

7 Best: Hilarious & Sarcastic

There really isn’t a funnier character on the entire series than David Rose. From his dramatic facial expressions to his subtle sarcastic wit, David says whatever is on his mind. It’s even more hysterical because it’s usually also what everyone else is afraid to say.

Fans won’t forget David holding a rake in a farmer’s field with a furry hood or all of his witty back-handed comments at Stevie, Alexis, and just about everyone else. It’s impossible to love David without appreciating how much he makes everyone watching laugh until their belly hurts.

6 Worst: Lazy

David is kind of the epitome of “I don’t want to”, and he likely won’t do anything unless he actually wants to. From helping his dad around the hotel to adamantly refusing to jog with Alexis, there really isn’t much for ‘active’ when it comes to David Rose.

He likes to do the things he loves, but it can be a bit frustrating for the characters around him when they try to get him to do just about anything else. It’s probably not that he doesn’t care, but he’s really just a bit lazy about everything. He needs a pretty big push before he’ll actually jump into action.

5 Best: Ambitious

Schitts Creek Davids 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Traits

When the show starts, it’s pretty clear that the Rose kids haven’t really worked hard for much in their lives. However, that changes in a pretty impressive way, including David getting a job and becoming really invested in how the clothing store looks and succeeds. Sure, he can be lazy, but he’s also surprisingly ambitious. He starts his own business!

There are some hysterics surrounding his actual lack of business knowledge, but the fact of the matter is that David never gives up. He has a goal and a vision and he works tirelessly to make it a reality. It’s admirable, and it works. The Rose Apothecary is something that fans have a special place in their hearts for.

4 Worst: Rude & Blunt

It’s kind of nice that David says what he’s thinking and is a pretty honest guy, but sometimes he can come off as a bit harsh or rude. He calls the blouses at the Blouse Barn ‘skanky’, and is pretty open about refusing to let specific things in his own store. Plus, he’s quick with an insult or an overly blunt comment to the people around him.

Usually it’s for comedic relief, but it’s also one of his worst qualities. He doesn’t try to be hurtful, but there’s no doubt that some of the things he says are a bit rude. People usually give him the benefit of the doubt, but that doesn’t mean he always deserves that.

3 Best: Supportive

Schitts Creek Davids 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Traits

For someone that’s pretty stuck in his own ways, he’s wildly supportive of literally everyone around him. He supports Alexis moving to New York, he wants Stevie to make the best choices for herself, and he even plays baseball for Patrick, not to mention stays in Schitt’s Creek to support him.

When Alexis needs help, David is always there for her. No matter what it is, David might judge, but he will ultimately do what he can to help and support his loved ones. Alexis even wore a wedding dress to his wedding, and he supported the fact that she looked astounding.

2 Worst: Materialistic

Schitts Creek Davids 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Traits

While no one is complaining about David’s stunning fashion sense, sometimes his obsession with expensive and pretty things can be a bit excessive. From wanting to spend an extensive amount of money on the wedding to caring just a bit too much about his clothes, it’s not exactly his best trait.

It can make for some entertainment, but it can certainly be a bit hard to watch and is definitely annoying for characters like Stevie and Patrick. He can be a bit of a snob, and his materialism gets in the way of him being the character everyone loves to pieces.

1 Best: Good-Hearted

David might not be the most selfless person out there, but he does have a heart of gold. At the end of the day, he deeply cares about the people around him. He does, after all, stay in Schitt’s Creek and makes an offer on the house that Patrick worked so hard to get for them.

He’s always there for his family and Stevie, too. David knows how other people feel and is willing to try to make their lives better. He might be a bit hesitant to admit it, but he’s a sweet guy that is totally caring. It’s one of the most redeemable traits of this character – and one of the reasons everyone loves him.
