There is no doubt that Scrubs is one of the best, and arguably one of the most underrated single-camera comedies of the 21st century, with an incredible cast, brilliant writing, medical accuracy, and eight seasons of absolute gold. For eight years, there were very few bad episodes, with the infamous ninth season being the only real asterisk against the show’s legacy.

The seasons of the show are likewise usually fantastic, and so very had to rank. Some are better than others due to having the best single episodes in the show history; some are better or worse due to the level of consistency throughout, something to which IMDb can attest.

8 Season 9 – 6.26

There is no surprise when it comes to what the IMDb averages rank as the worst season of Scrubs; it is the worst season of Scrubs, it had a lot of potential as a spin-off yet awful as the primary Scrubs season and was doomed from episode one, it is, of course, season nine.

With Sacred Heart now a medical school and the main cast either gone or taking a back big back seat except for Turk and Cox, the show did have a lot of potential as a premise. Attaching it to the core eight seasons, though, was a big mistake by the studio, and the limited amount of episodes in the season failed to come close to living up to what Scrubs brought to the table.

7 Season 7 – 8.1

Season seven understandably falls bottom of the good seasons of Scrubs, with only eleven episodes the season was in production hell due to the writers strike, unproduced episodes, a jumbled order to give the season a satisfying end, and the uncertainty of the show’s future.

The fact that the lowest-rated season, by way of the averages, is at 8.1, is not only is it a testament to Scrubs’ quality as a show but its popularity. Highlights of this season include Kelso’s retirement, the birth of little Sam Dorian, and some confusing continuity.

6 Season 2 – 8.20

The second season of the show is a step down from the premiere season but by a tiny margin. This season served as proof that the first season was not a one-off and that this show had the quality and potential to run for a long time.

Season two dives deep into a lot of characters, with Janitor interacting with other people, Cox’s history and relationship with Jordan furthered, and everyone dealing with the series of bombs Jordan dropped at the end of season one. It is a consistently great season with a few fantastic episodes – including the best season premiere of the entire show’s run – with no genuinely awful ones.

5 Season 1 – 8.266

Speaking of season one, the premiere season of the show was fantastic and set up the future of the show brilliantly, and both introduced and established the characters and their distinctive roles and personalities.

Seeing J.D., Turk, and Elliot as interns is great as they learn and grow into the fantastic doctors they become, and the other characters shine also. Moments like the one in three patients and the introductions of not only Jordan but her brother Ben – who heartbreakingly comes up later like another character introduced here, Jill Tracy – as well as the pilot and finale are significant highlights of the premiere season.

4 Season 8 – 8.268

From the first season to what many fans still consider to be the last, season eight is home to some of the most brilliant episodes in the entire show, as audiences, as well as J.D., say goodbye to Sacred Heart and the wonderful characters within it.

There are some subpar episodes in the season, specifically ones involving the new interns, which drags down the average, with episodes like “My Finale” and “My Last Words” being two of the most brilliantly crafted, personal, beautiful, and emotional stories in the entire series propping season eight up.

3 Season 6 – 8.277

Season six of Scrubs is perhaps the only season with a downright worst of the worst, the bottom of the barrel, skippable, awful episode, that being “My Night To Remember,” the dreaded clip show episode.

Even with that clip show having a rating of 5.7, the season still averages at well over 8.0, proving how consistently good the season is, with no real bad episodes apart from that one, and a collection of good to great to adored episodes surrounding it.

2 Season 3 – 8.366

There are so many fans of the show that will forever hold the very valid opinion that “My Screw Up” is the best episode of this fantastic show, with “Where do you think we are?” still a tear-inducing moment to this day.

That episode has a home in season three, another season with a couple of average episodes, and then a collection of great ones. It all builds up to the wedding of Turk and Carla, a massive dynamic shift between J.D. and Elliot, all while sprinkling in storytelling genius with episodes like “My Butterfly.”

1 Season 5 – 8.437

Of course, not every Scrubs fan believes “My Screw Up” to be the pinnacle of sadness or quality in Scrubs, with may pointing towards an episode in season five, “My Lunch,” a compelling, excellent, and sad episode.

Throw “My Lunch” in a group with “My Tormented Mentor,” “His Story III,” “My Half-Acre,” and the brilliant Wizard Of Oz homage “My Way Home,” and have those episodes surrounded by a class of good-to-great episodes, and you have the best season of Scrubs.
