Marvel’s Spider-Gwen comes from the Spider-Verse into the cosplay-verse in an incredible new look from cosplayer @spreenoel. This week, the cosplayer shared her take on the web-slinger’s iconic costume and the result is a pitch-perfect ensemble that shows what the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hero could potentially look like in a live-action movie of her own. The look should impress both comic fans and fans of the Academy Award-winning animated feature she starred in.
Spider-Gwen (otherwise known as Ghost-Spider) is one of the most popular Spider-Man-related heroes, despite first appearing in 2014. The character is an alt-universe version of Gwen Stacy created by Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez, whose version of Peter Parker died after becoming the Lizard – and the public turning against her, blaming the hero for his death. Gwen originally starred as one of the heroes in Marvel’s Edge of Spider-Verse event. While her earliest adventures occurred on her own Earth, Spider-Gwen eventually joined the 616-universe and has spent time in both universes since getting a higher profile in the comics. The character made her film debut in the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, where she was voiced by Hailee Steinfeld and was one of the main characters alongside Miles Morales.
On her cosplay Instagram account, @Spreenoel shared her take on Spider-Gwen. She wears the hero’s iconic look while sporting a blonde wig similar to Gwen Stacy’s hairstyle. Of course, the cosplayer sports Gwen Stacy of Earth-65’s hood on her costume, as she strikes a pose in front of a colorful brick wall. @Spreenoel has tackled a lot of cosplays in the Marvel Universe, including takes on Black Widow from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a cosplay of Captain Marvel, her version of Scarlet Witch, as well as Mary Jane Watson. The cosplayer has also tackled DC Comics characters Supergirl, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn, while also doing cosplays on other pop culture properties such as Harry Potter and Power Rangers. As mentioned above, it’s sort of incredible how fast Spider-Gwen has become one of the most beloved heroes in the Marvel Universe. Part of that is due to her absolutely incredible costume design, which became instantly unique and recognizable.
