The long-term future for Marvel’s Avengers doesn’t look great. Square Enix recently admitted the game has been a disappointment and even insinuated it chose the wrong studio to head up the project, attempting to shift more of the blame to Crystal Dynamics. There was almost no mention of Avengers’ future in the same report during which Square discussed the above, but there is at least one more milestone left for the game to hit.

Well, one more milestone if you play Marvel’s Avengers on PS4 or PS5. The arrival of Spider-Man. It was finally confirmed Spidey will be exclusively swinging into the PlayStation versions of the game on November 30, giving us less than three weeks to wait for the web-slinger’s arrival. There has been a severe lack of info on what Avengers’ Spider-Man will look like though, until now.

Square and Crystal Dynamics have finally shown off what the newest addition to the video game Spider-Verse will look like via the tweet below. The very first “really good really really epic” screenshot of Spidey shows him swinging through a rather chaotic scene alongside fellow Avengers Ms. Marvel, Thor, and Iron Man. It was also confirmed via a follow-up tweet that Spider-Man will be getting his very first Avengers trailer at some point tomorrow.

The trailer will hopefully provide a little more info regarding what to expect from Spidey’s arrival as with 20 days to go, how he will fit into the game still remains unclear. Spider-Man will be getting his own hero event, and will presumably have various costumes added to the game over time just like all the other Avengers. His presence obviously can’t impact the over-arching storyline very much if at all since he won’t exist in versions of the game being played on other platforms.

The addition of Spider-Man might well be the biggest step Marvel’s Avengers has taken since launch. Not just because every time a new hero is added the game experiences a spike in sales, and also not just because Spider-Man is the best-known hero Marvel has ever created. The main reason is this might well be the last major update Marvel’s Avengers receives. A lack of information regarding what’s coming next suggests that there might not be anything at all. Or perhaps Square is waiting until the new year for a refresh.
