The cinematic trailer for the upcoming game Star Wars Eclipse features a glimpse of Yoda, inviting speculation around other familiar Star Wars movie characters that may make an appearance in the game. Eclipse appears to be set toward the end of the High Republic, the period that precedes the events of the Skywalker Saga by decades and has so far been detailed in various Star Wars novels and comics. Eclipse is currently in early development under Quantic Dream, and will be a decision-based action/adventure game that will introduce new planets and original characters alongside having potential cameos by familiar faces that were alive during the High Republic.

The High Republic era, where Star Wars Eclipse is set, occurred between approximately 300 BBY and 82 BBY (or “Before the Battle of Yavin” in the Star Wars Galactic calendar). This era is also referred to as the Golden Age of the Jedi, during which the galaxy was at relative peace and the Sith had been gone for around 800 years. This was the height of the Galactic Republic, which was far more active throughout the galaxy than in later periods in their efforts to expand and explore the Outer Rim. However, not all was peaceful as these expansion efforts were driven by overpopulation on the Core Worlds and Colonies, causing poorer citizens to relocate to the comparatively dangerous Outer Rim Territories. Corporations, like the Trade Federation, were growing in power and prestige in the Outer Rim, preparing to rival the Republic in its waning years.

During the cinematic trailer for Star Wars Eclipse, a High Republic era Yoda can be seen in a brief shot of the Jedi Council Chamber, overlooking the bustling city-covered planet of Coruscant. This legendary Jedi Master was born in 896 BBY and lived through the High Republic, meaning he was 900 years old at the time of his death of Dagobah in Return of the Jedi. Throughout eight centuries of experience in training Jedi, Yoda witnessed the rise and fall of the Republic, as well as the rise of the Galactic Empire. As he appears in the trailer it is already hinted that Yoda will appear in the game. During the High Republic, Yoda is appointed Grand Master of the Jedi Council, though at some point by 232 BBY he takes a sabbatical, believing that the Force needed a new path. In this time he joined the Jedi cruiser, the Star Hopper, and became involved with the training of Padawans and Younglings.

Clone Wars Jedi Who Could Feature In Star Wars Eclipse

Yaddle is another member of the Jedi Council who was alive during the High Republic. She is a female of Yoda’s (and Grogu’s) mysterious species born in 509 BBY, and appears in The Phantom Menace seated in the High Council Chamber. During the High Republic, Yaddle served on the Council and was in charge of Initiates at the Jedi Temple, as well as pursuing her own scholarly endeavors at the Jedi Archives. In the High Republic novel, Out of the Shadows, it is revealed that Yaddle returned early from her sabbatical due to missing spending time with her Younglings. While not much is known about Yaddle’s history due to her brief role in High Republic material so far, she would be an exciting inclusion in Eclipse.

During Yaddle’s century of servitude as Jedi Master, she trained dozens of Padawans, notably including Oppo Rancisis. Oppo appears in the first two prequel movies and is a Thisspiasian male, a reptilian species with a serpentine tail and thick beard. Oppo was born to royal parents on the planet Thisspias, and being highly Force-sensitive he joined the Jedi Order at a young age, turning down the Blood Monarch throne to continue a life of servitude to the Force. Oppo served as a member of the Jedi High Council during the High Republic and into the Clone Wars. He was one of the few Jedi in Star Wars, like Fallen Order’s Cal Kestis, to survive the rise of the Empire. It is possible this talented tactician may appear in Eclipse alongside his former Master, as the game seems to be set towards the end of the High Republic.

Star Wars Eclipse Movie Characters – Maz Kanata

Maz Kanata is a force-sensitive being of an unknown species that is alive during Eclipse’s timeline. Maz was born in 973 BBY on Takodana, making her over 1000 years old when Han introduces Rey to her in The Force Awakens. The High Republic Adventures comics have featured Maz in stories that explain her position of “pirate queen” during this time.

Of course, Maz shares her lakeside castle home with the ancient protocol droid ME-8D9, or ‘Emmie’, who also appears in The Force Awakens. As seen in both that film and Star Wars Battlefront 2’s story mode, the two run the castle as a safe haven for travelers, smugglers, and pirates, as long as they obey the rules that prohibit violence and politics. It is possible that if Takodana is featured as a location in Eclipse, these two movie characters may be found amongst their trinkets and travelers.

Star Wars Eclipse Could Show A Younger Jabba The Hutt

Jabba the Hutt, the huge crime boss that looks like a giant slug, was born in 600 BBY on the swamp planet Nal Hutta, and therefore is a few hundred years old during the High Republic. Jabba is a prominent figure in the original films, and also appears in The Phantom Menace, acting as a somewhat belligerent, extremely powerful criminal overlord. In the movies, Jabba operates from his palace on Tatooine, controlling all aspects of piracy, slavery, and illegal goods trafficking on the planet, as his renown spread further across the Outer Rim. Depending on when the game takes place, Jabba and the Hutts could appear in Star Wars Eclipse as a faction for players to encounter.

Recent comics have begun to reveal what Jabba was getting up to in the High Republic, and it looks like it is criminal mischief. It’s unclear whether his criminal empire is quite as big as in the movies, but he is definitely operating illicit activity from Tatooine and even strikes an uneasy alliance with the Jedi. In any case, it would be interesting to see what Jabba is like before the Skywalker saga, and perhaps the game can help illustrate his rise to power.

Count Dooku Could Be Yoda’s Apprentice In Star Wars Eclipse

In 102 BBY, towards the end of the era, force-sensitive human Dooku was born on planet Serenno, and became Yoda’s apprentice in 86 BBY. Of course, Count Dooku fell to the dark side of the Force to become the Sith Lord Dark Tyranus in the final years of the Galactic Republic, memorably featuring in the prequels and multiple Star Wars video games, including Star Wars Bounty Hunter, which developed Jango Fett’s backstory. Dooku’s early life as a Youngling is revealed in the novel Jedi Lost, but much about his past remains unexplored. Depending on when Eclipse is set, Youngling or Jedi Dooku could potentially make an appearance before his fall to the darkside.

A Young Chewbacca Could Appear in Star Wars Eclipse

Of course, everyone’s favorite Wookiee is also alive during the High Republic, as Chewbacca was born on Kashykk around 200 BBY. Chewie’s past has been explored in the Legends timeline, but is seldom mentioned in canon. Chewie is a skilled military leader and is known to have a wife and son, though it is not clear when his son was born. So, High Republic Chewie could really be up to anything, possibly on Kashyyykk with his family, or perhaps already engaging in smuggling or any Wookiee military endeavors.

Overall, there are a handful of Star Wars movie characters who are alive during the High Republic and could potentially feature in the upcoming Star Wars Eclipse game. However, the exact timeline of Eclipse is not yet confirmed, so the activity of these characters at this time is not exactly clear. It is also not known how Wookiees age; the species live for a really long time, but it is not clear how quickly they grow up. So, there is always the exciting possibility that a 100-year-old Chewie may end up being the Baby Yoda of Star Wars Eclipse.
