EA might be saying woo hoo (oh…wait,) as The Sims 4 now has over 30 million players across all platforms. This information comes from EA’s 2021 first quarter financial report.

Twinfinite found the news of this gargantuan number, but one of the most important factors of maintaining a live service title is keeping the player base interested. The Sims 4 has done well in that retrospect as well; all daily, weekly, and monthly player counts have reached record high statistics, despite it being a 6-year-old game. Perhaps, people self-isolating, due to COVID, may have been experiencing their once colorful lives within the game instead of going out into the world.

It seems like the digital release model is working for EA. Their flagship battle royale Apex Legends has the highest engagement levels it has seen since Season 1, and player acquisitions from the Ultimate Sports Team modes of FIFA and Madden have significantly increased: more than 100% and 140% respectively. EA in the last quarter alone earned a whopping $378 million; with no major releases during that timeframe, that’s pretty damn good.

EA’s Chief Operating and Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen called it “an unprecedented first quarter of growth” and said, “Our Stay Home, Play Together initiatives have been a strong tailwind for the business, as players look for safe and social entertainment in these difficult times.”

To help keep The Sims 4 fresh, EA has been releasing Stuff Packs that continue to lighten up the world. Their most recent pack called Nifty Knitting, your Sims can make knitted plant hangers, rugs, and toys for little kids in the game. But knitting has a stereotype and that is, it’s for the elderly; EA included rocking chairs and a new interaction called Reminiscence. It gets more high-tech, however, as The Sims 4 has a crafting marketplace on the interwebz called Plopsy, in which you can buy and sell the clothing Sims make.

The Sims 4 is currently available on PC (through Origin and now Steam), Xbox One, and PS4. It’s quite strange there isn’t a Switch version yet, as it’s low-intensity graphics and casual on-the-go potential would fit right on the platform. EA is planning to release Apex Legends on the Switch with cross-play enabled, so perhaps the Redmond-based publisher could bring The Sims 4 over too.
